I am aware of at least several members with interesting, varied and in some cases very large car collections...

If any of them would like to post info (and preferably some pictures) here that would be great .. I for one would be very interested..

If you have a collection of boats, planes or anything else you would like to share post it here as well (I can always change the title!)

bumpkins collection.................

Petter Solbergs Subaru Impreza, 2003 New Zealand.

Richard Burns Peugeot 206, 2003 Monte Carlo.  A rare model which doubled in value on Richards untimely death from a brain tumour.

Tommi Makinen's Ford Escort Cosworth, 1994 Rally of the 1000 Lakes.  Very rare as Tommi and Mitsubishi will always be remembered as the unstoppable partnership.

Colin Mcrae's Citroen Xsara T4, 2003 Monte Carlo, another model which took on a rarity value upon Colins death.

No explanation required here, remember I owned Subaru for the best part of a decade and this limited edition signed by Richard Burns and Juha Kankkunen was a present from Kim.

Carlos Sainz' Ford Focus WRC, 1999 Monte Carlo.  I built this one myself.

A 1:16 model of Richard Burns 206 from the 2003 Monte.

Hannu Mikkolas Ford Escort RS1800, winner of the 1979 RAC Rally when it used to last for four full days and nights and they covered the entire country.  I followed that event as a 9 year old and was soaked by Hannu on the finish ramp at Bath when he sprayed the champagne.  Fantastic memories of going all over the UK from 1976 - 1988 following all the major (and some minor) rallies.

Roger Clarks Ford Escort RS MK1, winner of the 1972 RAC Rally.  I was too young for this one and I am still sourcing a good quality model of Old Man Clarks 1976 winner the bright red Cossack sponsored MK2 RS1800.

David Coulthards McLaren Mercedes MP4/13.

Damon Hills Willams Renault FW16, Limited Edition.

Hope you enjoy.............
Brian

Great collection

I liked the Carlos Sainz' Ford Focus WRC, 1999 Monte Carlo.  It looked so real.

  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

Thanks Brian.. They are fantastic

Your collection has justified the idea for this thread already..

I have never really thought of collecting models (well not car ones anyway)

But those look so real I'm tempted now  :P

Nice models!

OK, here is my story - I have had about 100 cars, and still have 28. Here is a list of the ones I still have, and I'll gradually upload some pics of them over the next few days. I'm putting together a list of all the cars I've owned.  :D

In chronological order:
1959 Volkswagen Beetle
1966 Mercedes-Benz 230S Fintail
1973 Volvo 164
1974 Volvo 145 (144 wagon) De Luxe
1974 Volvo 144 Grand Luxe (delivered ex-factory to the Australian ambassador to Sweden under the Diplomatic Sales Scheme - with all paperwork.
1975 Volvo 242DL
1977 Volvo 264 50th anniversary car
1977 Volvo 264 50th anniversary car (VIN 9 cars after the other one)
1977 Volvo 244DL
1977 Chrysler Regal LeBaron (Limited Edition)
1978 Ford Cortina Ghia 4.1
1979 Volvo 245GL
1979 Volvo 244GLE
1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SEL V8
1980 Volvo 262C Bertone coupe
1980 Porsche 924 Turbo
1981 Volvo 244GL
1983 Volvo 240GL
1985 Volvo 240GL
1985 Volvo 240GL (another one)
1985 Mazda 323 (family heirloom)
1986 Volvo 240GL
1987 Volvo 240GL Estate
1987 Volvo 740 Turbo HP (very rare with race block)
1990 Mazda B2200 ute
1995 Ford Fairlane Ghia V8
2005 Hyundai Getz GL 3 door
2008 Hyundai i30 SR

You'll note I've got a bit of a preference for a certain Swedish manufacturer, which sort of remains my greatest love, but I don't like any of the rubbish they make now. Suffice to say the small country town I live in would have more Volvos per capita than just about anywhere this side of Gothenburg.

Here are a few of my favourites:
*  Very rare Volvo 262C Bertone coupe, Bertie - I can't even really drive her because I can't fit in but I bought it because I always wanted one.
*  A shot of my Volvo collection at my old house about 7 years ago. Substantially expanded now...
*  My 1985 240GL, Matilda, who goes a whole lot faster than she looks and sports a number of suspension and intake and exhaust modifications. Goes around Wakefield Park race circuit comfortably faster than a manual VT Commodore with similar mods and has kept up with an early Porsche 911 through the twisties.
*  My old Getz, Cher, which was my daily driver before I bought the i30. I spent a lot of time and money getting her spot on - she was a bag of crap when I got her. Then I stupidly sold her when the i30 came along. I missed her so much I have bought another one now to do up in the same way since the person I sold Cher to won't sell her back!

I've found that a lot of my pics of cars are in hard copy or still on the camera, so I will get busy with the scanning and downloading and trickle them up over the next little while if people are interested.

Hi Michael..

Thanks for your contribution so far.. How do you go with Registration, Insurance and Storage..

Guess you only register a few to drive occasionally?

and you must have a big shed...

The best way to post pix is to join up to a free hosting site like this

http://photobucket.com/

and then just copy and past the bottom (image) link for each picture to where you want them in your postings..

See how you go and just ask if you can't get it to work...(think there are instructions on the site)

I was about to say that 262C Bertone model would be rare when I saw your picture and comment

by the way, I liked the look of the 164 more than the 264...

Thanks Dazz,

They only built 5000 Bertone coupes, they were originally built as 264s and shipped to Bertone in Italy to be converted. They have everything in them, and all top quality stuff. Really an exquisite thing for a Volvophile like me. Less than 100 came here and I understand there are about 20 left registered, about half of those original like mine.

The 164 is a better looking car than the 264, if you get a pre-'74 (HUUUUGE bumpers). I only have pics on this computer of my other 164, not my original one. Thought I had heaps more pics on this computer!

Will use photobucket for next posts - don't want to blow the club's storage!

As for rego, I have 5 cars registered and insured at any time, and play with or store the others in the interim.

The joys of having no kids, not drinking or smoking and only having one ex-wife!

You're allowed to have at least one vice

The original 164 like this but in that mustard yellow colour (couldn't find one that colour on the net) brings back fond memories of my childhood ..

yes they're a handsome and unappreciated car - I also have a large collection of original Volvo brochures and they were very nice looking cars when new, albiet with rather spindly wheels.

That one looks like an early '70s example - a nice one definitely. "Yoggie", being a '73, has similar sized bumpers but without the dip in the middle under the grille and with the later, flush-fitting door handles. Still got the vent windows (which I lament the demise of) but scored the more appealing later dashboard.

A stupidly large collection of cars is about my only vice yes... apart from chocolate...

Yeah,

I like the frontal treatment on the earlier 164 better than the 264 (a hint of Jaguar/Rover 3500 maybe...)

They got too slabby for me after that... but still a nice car and ahead of their time in some ways..

here are a few more, assuming I got the photobucket thing working properly...
This is my 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230S Fintail
This is my old Jaguar XJ6, now sold and deceased unfortunately...
This is my Volvo 164E with 757000km on the clock...

This is a barbeque I made out of a Volvo 240 I parted out... These photos were taken on it's maiden cook-up. Since then I've added mags and lowered it.  :D

Thanks Michael..

Mercs were apparently a magnificent car in those days.. Did you do many of those 757000km in the volvo...

That's the best hotted up Volvo I've ever seen... (maybe the first) and the number plate is a nice touch..Hope you upgraded the brakes too

yes it's a lovely old car the 230... 4 wheel independent suspension, 4 speed auto, absolutely rock solid build. Bit heavy on the juice and I haven't had it out of the shed in about 5 years. I bought it from a deceased estate, and it's clearly been loved. All original too.

Did about 300000 of those ks, my uncle did about 200000 before I bought it from him. She's retired now, suffering from ferocious rust in the floor and chassis rails thanks to my uncle's penchant for driving in the sea. Poor old thing. Still drives well and goes hard but I'm worried about the structure, so she doesn't move these days.

The barbie was a bit of fun, quite an easy LPG conversion! My neice made the number plate, I thought it was cute. Didn't worry too much about the brakes... I sold the air con compressor out of it about 12 months ago - the guy seemed surprised when I said I had to get the compressor out of my barbeque.

Not the best hotted up Volvo I've seen though. In fact I just found some pics of my V8 Volvo - I'll put them up tomorrow.

Here are some pics of my V8 Volvo 264 (renamed 280), which was packing a Tuned Port Injected 350 Chevrolet motor, turbo 400 transmission and Ford 9 inch diff. I kept it looking very mild on the outside...

But it had all the good bits under the bonnet...

...and it surprised more than a few people at the lights...  Seemed to have a problem with wear on the rear tyres tho...
