Hi
We have just purchased an 2009 I30 manual wagon it's clocked up 375000, runs smooth and has only done long trips. Just wondering do I use the recommended engine oil or go with something else I still get 800 to 850 out of a tank which leads to quality diesel do I go for the no ultimate or something else. The next service I'm thinking doing all oils engine, gear box , etc , coolant and all filters. I was thinking changing the oil every 5k and oil and oil filter every 10k . The service history is good oil and filter change every 10k and fluids and filters when needed . I'm aiming to get another 300,000plus out of the wagon

Cheers, will

I'm not sure about which diesel fuel to use but some of the other members will have their preferences, I can recommend Shell Ultra 5W-40 full syn oil though which is quite cheap ( $44 for 5ltr's ) through Blackwoods stores if you have nearby.

10 to 15 k services are fine with Ultra :goodjob2:

What Craig said.
I use the same oil.
As you have suggested, I would change all fluids so you know what you have got.
Then treat her well and she should return the favour.
As I've said before, the South Koreans have been building (light truck) diesel engines for their home market for decades and they know what they are doing.
Use quality consumables and enjoy the ride.   :goodjob:
I try to use Shell or Caltex premium diesels whenever possible.

Ring them first to make sure they have it in stock if you're going to travel that distance, it may end up cheaper getting it from somewhere closer like Supercheap or Autobarn if they have any specials and don't have to waste fuel on traveling.

Supercheap have it on special at the moment for $54.99. Might be easier to get it from them if that saves you doing a 120km round trip (assuming you have a Superchearp nearby).

Awesome to hear that the diesel sounds like it is still going strong with such high mileage!

I use Castrol Full Syn 0w40 in my wagon and try to stick to using Caltex fuel.

Hope you are happy with your purchase!

Hi William,
Congratulations on your purchase!

It is great to hear that your 'new' i30 is going so well after all of those km's.
It has obviously done lots of trips and highway travelling to accumulate that amount of km's in a relatively short time.

I would be using the very best oil that I could afford and make sure that I didn't try to economise on this or the drain interval. What the vehicle has had prior to you buying it obviously works...

Is this vehicle the 'most travelled i30 in the country'? Can anyone beat this?

Paolo I've learnt oils cheaper than a rebuild!

Since blackwoods was closed got stuck in road works ended up at supercheap got the oil and other bits from hy parts who were very helpful I'll give it a birthday.
