Hi All,

An interesting thing happened the other day:

I contacted Repco Service to get a quote for the 90,000km service (with me supplying parts), and they came back saying that according to their schedule, the car is due for the coolant change.  I said my book says coolant to be changed at 10years or 210,000kms (this had been brought up here once before a few years ago and apparently my owners manual is special).

Anyway I decided to ring Hyundai and ask.  They opened up an owners manual and  had a look and it says to change at 90,000km.  Online it says the same thing.  They couldn't work out why my book says different.  I asked if I refuse to have the coolant changed will this affect warranty and they said no as it is in my book.

While on the phone the Hyundai operator was looking at a few things, and I was on the same service schedule screen comparing prices for the service.  Anyway long story short, I found out that according to their system, my car is in fact a MY12 model and not a MY11 as I was to believe.  I asked where do I find it on the car and he gave me all the spots (Compliance plate, engine bay) and I took photos of them and sent to him and we cannot find anywhere on the car the MY number.

My rego papers state 2011 and my contract of sale doesn't state a year or MY number.  So when I go in to get the clutch looked at I will be asking the dealer to confirm what MY year it is.  If it is different to what they gave the RMS, then I will be holding them liable and to change it to the correct one - I have been insuring the car as a 2011 model and if I had an accident the insurer could have come back saying that I was insuring the wrong car and wont pay up!

The car was built 08/11 and compliance 10/11, rego 11/11.

After the phone call, Repco came back and said that my car is one of the rare cars that have a "long life coolant" in it.

Plan will be once it is out of warranty, I will be replacing the coolant myself (not going to pay someone to do it before hand).

Hi H20,

Don't panic about the MY (model year) this won't affect your insurance although probably worth changing with them anyway.

Hyundai does minor updates to their models late in each year and calls it MY (the next year)

So your car is a 2011 build but has some minor upgrades that carry through to the 2012 year.

Usually the only way to identify these models as far as I am aware is by the changed features. For example, my wife had a 2010 CW (MY11) and it had silver roof rails rather than black + a couple of other minor things. I was aware it was an MY11 so when the insurance asked if it was an MY10 or MY11 I could tell them.

I find the uk system prevents misunderstanding.

Here it is dependent in which plate period the car is first registered no matter when built.

Plate registration periods are

1 march to 31 august
And
1 september to 28/29 February

That is slightly different. Trish's compliance plate was 2010 (so insured as 2010, but as MY11 version)

Lester,

I prefer our system, going by date complianced. :cool:

Tim posted some time ago that you can find the MY from the VIN.

Mine have first reg. dec. 2007 but is a MY 08.

VIN: KMHDC51TP8Uxxxxxx  The 10th character tells the MY..  :mrgreen:

My VIN: KMHDB81SALCUXXXXXX  So 10th character is L...

I'll see if I can find that post about the VIN.

Found the post here:

:link: interesting letter in the mail.

From MY 10 the character is A and onwards, so yours being L seems strange.. :confused:

A=2010
B=2011
C=2012.....

After looking at all the info, and double checking my VIN typed above, I seemed to have added a letter into there :(  KMHDB81SLCUXXXXXX  So now 10th character is C

So that makes it a 2012 model...

So mine was built in 2012 but the tenth character is a D.
Does this then mean MY13?

Yep  :mrgreen:

If you look at the VIN decoder it's mentioned that next years model (MY) often is produced from August. This is not just Hy doing that, a lot of brands do that.
This is also the reason you won't find a MY 2007 i30. They came on sale from September 2007, meaning all was MY 2008.

So if you think you have a 2011 model, then find you have a MY12, do you get warranty till 2017?
