Sump plug leak after oil change

I have just finished an oil change on my 2013 1.6 diesel i30 after draining the oil through the sump l changed the filter returned the sump plug using the  metal washer in the filter pack, refilled, only to find I had a leaking plug, should I have used a copper washer or is there another type of seal

I prefer copper washers.
But without more details I can't really help.
For instance.
What country are you in?
Was the filter genuine or after market.
The country will help people who might have had a similar problem to contribute.
If the filter was genuine I would expect the supplied washer was OK.
If not, what brand was it?

Sorry if I sound pedantic but a wander through some of the posts on here will demonstrate how many variables there are in these cars around the world.

I live in France, I purchased the car in  France 5 years ago , so warranty has just finished, so decided to service car myself, the filter was a genuine  Mahle filter which came with metal washer( I assume is aluminum) and I may have possibly over tightened the bolt, I like you have always used copper washers with perfect results , I  didn't know the torque setting so just used the pressure I'd normally use, just hopping I have not done serious damage! Has anyone else had this problem?

If you tightened a little to much it's likely the aluminium washer has split :( if it's leaking fast best to stick a clean container under it to collect and shoot of to Hyundai to grab another bolt/washer, you'll be attempting the bolt out -block hole with hand - new bolt in, hopefully without to much mess :sweating:

I always used to rub a little oil on the washer before fitting ,saves it trying to spin while tightening the plug.

I have used the alu washers from various non HY filters with no problems....  :cool:
