Same thing here in Sweden...
LuleƄ in northern Sweden has so far had better weather than Halmstad in southern Sweden...
Distance between Halmstad and LuleƄ is 1350 km.
This year the weather has been quite crazy...

Yes the weather has been better in N and E Iceland,

Now the weather is good in S and W Iceland but not so good in N and E, I live on the SW part.

Not big compared to Australia but big compared to many European countries...

I should study Sweden a bit just out of interest (My late Stepdad had a Volvo Dealership when I was a kid and loved his Saab Areo which he had for over 10 years until he passed in 2007....)

Yes a big piece of land for sure, but most of it is basically inhabitable - too dry, too hot etc.
over 90% of the population (don't quote me on that) live right on the very edge of the coast, and more so on the eastern coast.
Aussies also have an obsession with living on coastal areas - any land along a coastal strip is becoming too expensive for the average jo-blo.
But having said that most of us would live within 30-40mins drive from the coast anyway.

Same here.

probably 99% here that live by or close to coast, the highlands as they are called are to cold and have fierce weather in the winter.

UK is 244,000 sq. km in area and has a population of 62M

Scotland is 79,000 sq. km and only has 0.6M people, mostly in the cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness.  Most of the country is uninhabited due to the mountains and like Iceland has it's major cities on the coasts.

According to this Scotland has a Population of a bit over 5 Million..

http://www.trueknowledge.com/q/population_of_scotland_2010

.6 Million is only a few more than Tasmania   (that would have made your cities awfully small  )

They are smaller than I thought they would be but Glasgow has nearly .6 Million by itself

Yes, 9C is T-shirt weather in Scotland

IS that with or w/o a kilt?

I saw a bloke in stubby shorts, a tee shirt and thongs (the kind you wear on your feet) tonight and it was blowing a gale at 8 degrees.......
Maybe he was on his way home from the pub, had his fill and was running on whiskey....
