Hi Hemmi We have battered and deep fried shark in the take away shops over here..called "flake" it is the take way fish of choice (mostly) for the wife and I.. sounds like it is prepared differntly in Iceland

I remember watching a tv show about Hákarl. Not sure who was the presenter, but he was a chef I believe.

Here's a list of some of the foods:

    * Kæstur hákarl, putrefied Greenland shark (I tried it for the first time tonight, wasn't that bad!)
    * Súrsaðir hrútspungar, the testicles of rams pressed in blocks, boiled and cured in lactic acid. (I will never eat this!)
    * Svið, singed and boiled sheep heads, sometimes cured in lactic acid (not bad, good meat, but there's something wrong with having a part of a sheep head on your plate )
    * Sviðasulta, head cheese or brawn made from svið, sometimes cured in lactic acid (really good)
    * Lifrarpylsa (liver sausage), a pudding made from liver and suet of sheep kneaded with rye flour and oats (Not a fan of it but liked it as a kid, like most other kids here)
    * Blóðmör (blood-suet; also known as slátur, meaning slaughter), a type of blood pudding, which is made from lamb's blood and suet, kneaded with rye flour and oats (not a fan either)
    * Harðfiskur, wind-dried fish (often cod, haddock or seawolf), served with butter (really really good, you wont believe how good this is!)
    * Rúgbrauð (rye bread), traditional Icelandic rye bread (Never liked it)
    * Hangikjöt, (hung meat), smoked and boiled lamb or mutton, sometimes also eaten raw. (fantastic! A favorite!)
    * Lundabaggi, sheep’s loins wrapped in the meat from the sides, pressed and cured in lactic acid (tasted strange)
    * Selshreifar, seal's flippers cured in lactic acid (eww, never in my lifetime!)

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the food is similar to other old Scandinavian or old English foods, because how close we are and our History.

No I don't like it, but, there is another way of eating it that I like, you cut it up in slices and fry it on a pan and straw sugar over it, that is really really good
