On my UK windscreen it says the manufacturer, and al the standards it conforms too in the bottom corner of one side (passenger side on UK) .

Novus says the i30 windscreens are inferior to the australian standards and that a third party one will be stronger/better quality.

I would have thought that Hyundai couldn't import ANYTHING that didn't meet the Australian Standard ????????????

obviously i'm going to have to dig into it more before i do get the screen replaced, i'm only going on what Novus told my father, who relayed to me. and he's not around for a week or so, and i don't feel like talking to Novus at the moment. but something about the i30 screens being made in China and being below aussie standards, and third party screens being better, is what i was told.

sad sad day - poor snow has been clobbered by a rock on the windscreen

Unfortunately I cracked my windscreen today - and the car is less than 3 weeks old  ... A stone about size of a thumb fell off a bridge that I was just undercutting with the result of the stone smashing into top left corner of the windscreen.

I had an immense burst of despair and frustration, which I believe has already settled for most parts... This is just something that you do not want to happen to your brand new car.

There's a chipmark on the glass, diameter being about 15-20 mm. I'm going to book it for repair ASAP.

Sorry to hear that saunaman.. sounds like it might be repairable if you have that facility over there.. easier and cheaper than a replacement...

Yes, it is repairable - at least at the moment. I had a couple of these repaired for our second car in January.

Had it fixed today, quite happy with the result. There's only a tiny spot left and only if you look very carefully from certain angle, you may notice the star-shaped cracks around the spot. Cost of repair was 50€.

I guess it could have been worse if it had hit the paintwork somewhere. messier to repair than just replacing the windscreen.

Well what a lot of crap if you dont want to replace the windscreen why pay for glass insurance some insurance companies want to repair some want to replace and its free you PAID for it use it! I replace my windsceen every year just before renewal if it has any chips what so ever mine has gone  to $65 per year but still cheaper than paying for a screen so what if it is not original it is glass and not faulty and its free and you can put one in every year what is the problem

What you say is very well Merlot but if you are entitled to only one windscreen claim a year then sometimes it is best to go for a repair early in the year just in case later on you have damage that is not repairable and you HAVE to get a new screen...

AFAIK in europe there are only two manufacturers of car glasses, Pilkington and Saint Gobain. Those two fellows have bought out ALL of their competitiors and share the market totally.

Thatever EU made car you may drive, from Mercedes to Dacia Logan, the glasses will come from them. No car manufacturer has facilities to do their own.

If you buy an "original part" replacement, it just has one more middleman, and will cost more. The quality is the same, as they come from the same production line.

Even if Hyundai ships car glasses from Korea, I doubt that they would be any better.

Mine was manufactured by Gobain. I suspect hyundai use Pilkintons too, as any just-in-time manufaturer wouldn't want to have a single source supplier.

ahhh so sorry you chipped yours as well, but glad to see you had it fixed satisfactorily.
i'm starting to get used to mine i guess, though i can still see the crack pretty clearly.
