I read an interesting post on the Whirlpool  forum regarding a very minor front end Collision and reproduce the body of this particular thread  for owners to be wary of damage to the front end;

"Had a very low impact front ender in i30SR 2018, no damage to car in front, very slight movement of grill next to bumper on mine but no damage. However warning message for adaptive cruise control/autonomous braking came on shortly afterwards. Had it checked by Hyundai, could not be reset. Made insurance claim, new bumper/grill (could easily have been repaired) $1200. Replacement parts and calibration for adaptive cruise control $7600. (gasp) The unit is just behind logo badge in centre of grill with no protection from a small collision. I could image somebody reverse parking into my car would have the similar amount of force as my accident, so make sure your comprehensive insurance is there"

Apologies to to the author of this post if he is reading this for lifting your message, but I thought it worth reprinting here as well.

I think that might have also got some mention on our FB page. Sounds familar. Thanks for sharing either way.  :goodjob:

The radar units for the auto cruise etc need to be near the front and unobstructed for obvious reasons,  so I would assume this would be similar for other brands with that feature too.

THis is the front end of my Niro.  THis illustrates the vulnerable location.  The ionic platform will be the same.

At that cost, one would expect it to work.

Or was this a female v blindingly obvious parking lot obstruction?

Tell me why would you want a bumper and grill to be repaired when you are going to pay excess anyway. Give me a new one....

Could this be the reason why these new toys have not resulted in a reduction in insurance premiums for having them???

As a last thought how did they have the small accident hitting the car in front if they had idiot braking?

Good points as usual mate, but idiot braking as you call it only reduces the impact sometimes rather than avoiding it altogether.  :undecided:

:scared: :faint: Why wasn't I told?

New plan : defensive driving and pressing the brake pedal.  :victory:

Jeepers maybe I'd be better parking in car parks than in the street!  :crazy1:

Get a bull bar, look unique, and you could go to a Tazzie B & S ball.

Replace the $7600 sensor with a cheaper one that sounds an alarm when you fall within safe following distance.

Job done....

Beerman raises a good point on sourcing cheaper alternatives (they’re on eBay already) just so long as you’re cognisant of possible roadworthiness and insurance implications. :winker:

I like mine just the way it is. My wedding vegetables are worth a lot to me and positioned in a fairly precarious position but I'm not going to replace them with a cheaper alternative.  :snigger:

I was talking about doing it at the factory. If it needs fixing and I have insurance, I really don't care what it costs.

Came to conclusion today. This also links with a member complaint that the PD horn is weak.

Twice happened to me:

You are in traffic, as usual there will be the dh'd who does 10k below speed limit.
You pick a two car-length gap and slip around and in front of Ms slow.

All done safely but she madly beeps the pathetic horn at you.  :scared:

Here's what happened. You set off her idiot brake.  :goodjob2:
This caused her to have psychotic episode, and further loss of confidence.

Future fun to  be had?  :snigger:

Thats almost as much fun as slowing to pull into a gap you wouldn't normally take to allow a tailgater to pass, all the while knowing there is a fixed speed camera just up the road.....  :whistler:

On more than one occasion I have “under” taken a slow fast lane hog when slowed to even less until the hog changes lanes and I then lead the pack of “limit” driver’s away.

I've said before that I don't like ACC on Santa - 4 car gap on minimum setting  -  try that senario at 120 km/h - only I'm the one braking hard, anyone behind me ? , are my brake lights on?
   :sweating:  :sweating:
