Well, my steering is finally knocking badly enough to take the car to Hyundai to let them sort it. The service manager denied any knowledge of the problem in NZ and wanted the car for a day to diagnose. The workshop foreman was better ... had a look and noted it definitely seemed in the column.

Taking it in next Thurday for the 45000km service and they will sort out what they want to do then

Just a shame I didn't print out the TSB before they were removed.

Hopefully "someone" will see this post and send you a copy ...

I occassionally hear noises that might be that problem but I have done 60,000 already...(only hear them on my bumpy 85 metre gravel driveway)

The TSB if we could see it, refers to cars built from first production until 14th April 2008.

Mine was built September 2008. It has similar but yet undiagnosed symptoms. It's time I approached the dealer for the 3rd time to get it sorted. For some reason all I got the first two times was "still trying to work out how to approach it".

Yes, car is just on 2 years old now. Is Feb 2008 build, first sold in April 2008 (fits in to the VIN range for the steering TSB). I bought in August 2009 at 17000km so have done 28000km in less than a year  :'(

Is an absolutely amazing car ... I travel a bit towing a trailer with bikes, it tows so well with the manual diesel. Passed a V6 Commodore while towing a trailer with 3 bikes on it up a long hill. He was towing much the same weight and was slowing down. My passenger was so impressed he reckons it will be his next car.

If anyone does have that TSB, would be very interested in receiving it. Just to help these guys at Hyundai out!

Likewise. When I described as best I could from what I remembered of the TSB my guy said he knew nothing about it! Even if it didn't apply in my case I would have expected him to know of it or at least be able to find it.

TSB received from ********... he is a legend. Thanks.(one should be a little discreet in these matters :P)

Read through it, sounds exactly what is wrong. Doesn't look like a ten minute fix!

Will see on Thursday  :)

Well,

Phone call today from the service manager. Seems he has been doing some checking. asked what I had seen and told him about the Australian TSB that I "just happened to have". And no, I wasn't willing to email him a copy but happy to drop in with a copy after work.

Got there and he had the Korean TSB which Hyundai NZ got for him. Very similar. He has ordered the part (about $4 he said) and they would look at fitting it Thursday during the service if they were happy that's what it is. Though looks likely it is that he reckons. They haven't taken it for a drive, just noted the knock when turning the steering wheel back and forth.

Said they wanted to take photos along the way and do it really slowly as it was the first one they had seen. He seems to think first one in NZ!

I'm fairly impressed ... roll on Thursday  :)

It took my dealership several hours to do the work, and they still got it wrong (wrong part sent, allegedly)

As you were so obliging to do their investigatory work re the TSB be cheeky and ask them to email the photo's to you.

Then you post on here

Will see what I can do! Within 2 weeks of owning the car, asked for another flip key (only got 1). Car was a year old at that stage so was willing to go halves. Hyundai supplied one. Then when I discovered the first service was with 30/40 grade oil, Hyundai organised another service at their cost. Got a complimentary torch, a Hyundai "Favourites" boxed colour book (may become a collectors item!) and a card at Christmas.

Phone call to remind me a service is due and a card today to remind me WOF (same as MOT) due soon.

Will let you all know how this issue works out. So far am impressed with Hyundai (the car and the company).

I wish they would introduce the WOF or similar here in WA.  Some real piles of junk getting around on the roads here, not to mention cars with bald tyres, lights that don't work or are broken, cracked windscreens...

Is yearly for the first seven years of the cars life and six monthly after that. Must be current to allow vehicle registration (licensing) ... unfortanately, here in NZ it means we have cars without WOF and REG (registration) rather than just WOF as before.

The government tried to make the WOF test yearly a while back but there was such an outcry from the industry (that does the inspections and would lose money) that it remained as is.

And yes, things like cracked or even chipped windscreens will fail the test. No washer fluid will give you a fail! But overall, I think it's a good thing. Even my trailers have current WOF labels although trailers exempt from requiring them for registartion purposes :D
