Hi all sorry to post about an offshore make.
i was just reading about the new 2.2 common rail turbo diesel motor Mazda are useing in the new 6 it has a smaller turbo for increased low end responce, but the part that impressed me the most is it has 400nm TQ and they will fit it to the Mazda 3 within 12 months along with 6 speed manuel. could be a fun replacement for Betsy if Hy don't offer similar grunt

check this out, i got it wrong, it's the mazda 6 that gets it in one year but with 400nm @ 1,800rev it will be fun

I think you need to reset your clocks...........

The article is from Sep 2008 the 6 has had the engine for a while now, and the 3 is now coming out with the same but de rated engine (racing in the Targa Tas) but uses only .2l/100km less than the 6........

If Hyundai doesn't put the 2.2 in the i45 and/or improves the rev range that the max torque is delivered I'll be getting the 6. Before they destroy it with a goofy grin..........

Regards

Daniel

Daniel, i agree, i'm not up to date with Mazda diesel, but back just b4 i ordered my i30 CRDi i drove a new Late 2007 2L mazda 3  6speed, it was a fast little car but felt like a two stroke to me, like it had a sort of dead spot then the Torque hit with a great rush not a smooth Tq delivery like the i30 CRDi but an abrumt big hit. but down low it was a bit lazy. i stalled it in first something i never do with the i30 CRDi.
now if i read the Mazda com au sight right the mazda 3 has a 2.2 turbo diesel that has?? i think 100+KW at reasonably low rev and 360NM torque from 1,800rev sounds like they use a small turbo, i will have to terst drive one. but at $33,500 drive away no extras but turbo diesel its a bit steep, i payed $21,000 drive away for my diesel new, then picked up new SLX wheels & Tyres $600 so was very happy. the Maz would need to really excite me for that money.

Yeah the old 2.0L in the older 6 wasn't really special, in 08 they put the 2.2 in and added about 40KW and 100nm ish. Now they are using the same engine but a smaller Turbo, except from what I can tell no figures at all have changed except the Wagon diesel goes from 6.0 to 5.9l/100km (equal to the hatch).

This same 2.2 with the smaller Turbo is what is now in the 3 but they have detuned it by about 10KW and 40nm if memory serves. But it only manages to achieve 5.7l/100km. Doesn't really make sense when the 6 is heavier and gets the extra performance with only an extra 0.2l/100km consumption.

Regards

Daniel
