 I mentioned a while back on the I30 forum that I considered the high beams to be a little underpowered for night driving on country roads. Following up on member's suggestions, including one from Dazz, I bought a pair of Philips Power2Night +50% light globes from Autobarn for $39.

These globes are claimed to provide up to 50% more light and to increase the beam length by 10 to 20 metres without altering the power rating of 55 Watts.

Well I am pleased report that my high beam is definitely much whiter and brighter than before , (sounds like a clothes powder advert) , and the beam penetrates a lot further up the road. All making for safer night driving.

I can recommend them and I believe that if you do much night driving on country roads then they are well worth the cost.

thanks dude!! Do they affect the spread of light outwards? Wiggy seems to have a nice throw out to the left which is good for kanga spotting

Hi S-M,

That's a good result then. It is always dangerous recommending something on someone else's say so.

I bought some other (cheaper) "blue light" globes to try and improve our 2006 Getz headlights (shockers) and they gave disappointing results. The bloke that owns the service centre that usually services my vehicles gave the Philips globes a big wrap when I complained about the others.

Hi Ozsnownman and Dazz,

The beam is not only longer but is also at least as wide as the originals with buckets of left side brightness.

The globes are H1. The H1 globe is available only in the +50%, whereas the H4's, etc go up to +80% in the Powe2night range!!  

Phillips also have other H1, 55W products that are dearer and are probably even brighter, such as the "BlueVision", "CrystalVision" and "DiamondVision" ranges, but some of these are not approved for road use

why dontu guys just buy HID or bi-xenon headlight is only cost like $120 and last for 50.000 hours and its 300% brighter like european car

wow, only $120? the only HID xenon's ive seen are like $300? isnt it a bit of a hassle though with connecting the ballast and all that? (sorry ive just done a basic theory scan on it all so dont know how it actually connects practically)

nah.. most of xenon hid only cost between $100-120 and installation only around 5minutes.. if u understand the concept

btw.. what is the i30 headlight size? 2x h4? or h2?

Apparently they are only legal in Australia on vehicles that have headlight washers. What do you know about that??
Also the Phillips Australian website lists the xenon globes as "not for road use" ....any ideas why???

If your car has Projector is legal to have HID.. coz i always useing it and the i30 has Projector headlight

if the high beam is H1 what is the low beam size? H1 as well?

ooh thanks for that info. also is it possible to change the fog lights to hid as well? cos i dont want to have the conflicting colours...mite look a lil...cheap? haha

im not sure...but also...how would this work? cos we have independant globes for hi and low beam so we cant use the bixenon....does that mean we can only get the single h1 globes for low beam?

so assuming the h1s are only for low beam? does that mean we have to get 2 HID convertor sets? unless we can use the bixenon globes...darn...this is alot more complex than i thought...
