Hi Craig,
Point taken and yes I expect most wouldn't touch themselves while under warranty. That said a qualified mechanic could, without voiding the warranty. And if folks are outside warranty - which I'd say would be a lot of DCT owners as well - they might have done or had done.
I'm actually unsure exactly what mileage Hyundai recommends changing the DCT fluid for PD's?
It would seem like with many auto fluids that doing this more regularly is likely a good thing - though from my understanding Hyundai's DCT is a 'dry' unit - and the fluid within it is (and here's where I show my lack of auto jargon) the bits NOT within the actual clutch plate area themselves - there's only around 2L of fluid where wet DCT's seem to have 7L or more.
As part of our commute into town we descend a large, steep hill - rather than riding the brakes all the way down - we flick the DCT over into manual selection and stay in 3-4th to largely keep the vehicle to the 80kph limit.
The Hyundai manual says this is actually best practice and when I asked Hyundai they said it won't damage the DCT - but part of me thinks doing the fluid change earlier might be a good idea.
So if anyone (PD owners or not) have changed their DCT fluid I'd welcome how hard you found it. :-)
