Out with the old ,

In with the new , 2021 I30N DCT Hatch

What a beast of a car , I absolutely love everything about it.

Goes hard , handles awesome , sounds awesome , looks awesome and the DCT transmission is superb to use , one minute it can be an everyday car and with a push of the magic button it turns into a fire breathing beast , the most fun I have had with my pants still on

Picked it up second hand with 87,000 country kms on it , full service history , still under warranty until January 2026 , the only issues I have found is a few stone chips which were to be expected.

The old 1.6 CRDI auto wagon which I upgraded the shocks to Bilstein B6 , added a racechip and had 270,000 kms at trade in was still going strong also I had the racechip on the car at its maximum setting for the last 7 years without any issues at all (I read on this forum people attributing the racechip to creating issues with their engines)

I hope it should do me for another 10 years , awesome car.

I do have one major issue with the car , the clear coat on the front bumper is peeling away , it was just 2 small spots originally but now the whole bottom area has peeled away with more peeling away seemingly everyday  :'(

I am getting it serviced at Hyundai next week and will point this out to them and I hope/expect it should be fixed under warranty.

I have come across a few reports of other people with this issue and it was fixed under warranty but this seems to only happen with the performance blue for some reason.

I will update on the outcome.

Argh , I took it in for it's service on the 13th June and pointed out the clear coat peeling and I mentioned it should be fixed under warranty , when I picked the car up later that day they said they had taken photo's of the peeling clear coat and had sent them to head office and I should hear back the following week but it's now over 2 weeks later and I still have not heard anything , I even sent an enquiry to the dealership about this last week but so far no reply , I don't know what is taking them so long to make a decision and it's very frustrating not knowing what's going to happen , so far not the greatest service from Hyundai.

Four weeks and no reply is unacceptable by any customer relationship standard. A shame you can't doorstop them with a Current Affair TV cameraman.  They don't like that!

I still hadn't had any response in regards to this issue after 6 weeks , I remembered a girl from Chadstone Hyundai had texted me after I had my car serviced with them asking how was my service and if I was happy , at that time I responded with yes I was happy , as a last attempt at getting some form of response in regards to my warranty issue before I called Hyundai Australia I replied to the same girl via text explaining the issue and now I was very unhappy with the service from them , I received a response from her the next day apologising for this and she would be forwarding this on to the service department.

Later the same day I had an email from the service department profusely apologising and they had lost the paperwork for my claim and he would personally get it sorted ASAP.

A week later and I just had an email from him saying the claim has been approved and they will be replacing the front and rear bumpers , he has just ordered the replacement bumpers , they will need to be painted at a panel shop and he will contact me for an appointment to have them replaced.

I am surprised they are also replacing the rear bumper as it was only a very small area in a corner of the rear bumper where the clear coat was missing.

Finally :)

Thanks for the update.  A good result.  :happydance:

Still waiting for my new bumpers.

Did a N track day at Winton Raceway yesterday , this was my first track day and it was a lot of fun , very friendly people and well organised , even scored a $50 voucher for my next service and a goody bag from Hyundai , they were also offering complementary rides in a I30N sedan and the Ioniq 5 with race drivers for N owners but I was having too much fun in mine so I didn't.

Well worth it if you have never done a track day before.

I was very very impressed with my I30N completely stock , never had brake fade after 7 laps (max for each session) and it didn't miss a beat , N track sense worked well , you could tell the DCT was in a more aggressive mode , I never felt the need to use it manually , awesome little car.

Finally , it's booked in tomorrow to have the front and rear bumper replaced , I will get it back on Friday , so 4 days to do the job and they are giving me a loan car.

Apart from the time taken for this to happen Hyundai have been good to deal with and i'm happy with their service , good job Hyundai :)

I have the car back now , Chadstone Hyundai have done a good job , the front and rear bumpers look brand new with nice fresh paint , very happy with the job they have done. :)

Now I just need to fit the new Intima HCS disks and SR pads for the front and rear (original front disks are near the wear limit) , the towbar I have purchased (https://etowbars.com/au/Towbars/Hyundai/i-30/3-5-door/i30-2017-towbars/Hyundai-i-30-facelift-Invisible-Towbar) for towing my dirtbikes , Viofo A119 mini 2 dash camera and the pioneer amp for the stereo.

I have fitted the tow bar now , details here :link: Towbar for N-Line 2023 Hatch?
Also fitted the new Intima HCS disks and SR pads front and rear.
Replaced the front door speakers with JBL GTO 620 and added a 4 channel Class D Pioneer amp ( :link: GM-D1004 - Pioneer using Aerpro CT10HY07T wiring harness and Stinger BNSPHY651 speaker spacers)
Replaced the torque pitch mount bushes with purple Powerflex bushes for the gearbox (reduces axle tramp)
Fitted a viofo a119 mini 2 dash cam.
Gave it a good wash and clean inside then used this for the outside :link: Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating 473ml , fantastic stuff ,  great shine and very easy to apply , highly recommended.

So you, "...fitted the new Intima HCS disks and SR pads front and rear" and "Replaced the torque pitch mount bushes with purple Powerflex bushes for the gearbox...".  I can already see the steady and expensive progression from it being a street/street car to being a street/track car. :)

Just curious, did the Powerflex bushes add anything to the NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) of the car?

Your photos having to work on your car in the front yard reminded me of my younger/fitter/slimmer days when I had to adjust the front brakes on my ratty car in the street while it rained...and this girl I liked held the umbrella.  I asked her "Best first date ever?".  She just said "Different". :undecided:

Whenever convenient I would be interested in your opinion of the dash cam, especially its clarity at night say, reading number plates.

I have not noticed any additional NVH at all from the purple bushes and they have reduced the wheel hop a lot which is needed as it can be quite savage even when dry.

Yes it's a pain in the arse not having a garage and having to do all work in the driveway with it being weather dependant.

The camera is very good  , I had a Viofo A119 V2 before in the wagon for over 6 years without any issues , this camera has very good image quality day or night but you will still struggle to read number plates at night unless very close  , I wired it up with the hardwire kit so now have the parking mode working.

The disks were going to be needed soon anyway and the Intima option is way way cheaper than the original Hyundai disks and pads.

I only have one more thing I am doing to the car and that is fit a compact light bar (Stedi st1k 13.5 inch , impressive output for such a small light) using a licence plate bracket to improve the high beam and then I'm finished with it as it's my daily but still a beast when I want it to be :)

Never thought I would enjoy the way it sounds as much as I do , I laugh like a school boy every time I put it into race mode :)

@mrexcitement.  Thanks for the feedback.  I'll check out the reviews for your make/model dashcam as I was thinking of updating mine.  It seems that most (if not all?) dashcams struggle to varying degrees with reading number plates, especially at night and/or not close.

I feel your pain about having to do jobs on cars in the front yard.  From the 70's I had homes with garages which improved Life but I didn't know what Heaven was until 2006 when I teamed up with a guy in the NSW WRX Club who had a factory close-by and installed a proper two-post hoist(!).  Soooo much easier to work on and modify our cars (2006 STi's) for club level motorsport!

"The disks were going to be needed soon anyway and the Intima option is way way cheaper than the original Hyundai disks and pads".  Yep, so much the way with so many genuine parts.

Nothing wrong with laughing like a schoolboy...unless when being pulled over by the HWP!  :)

Two random photos: I know this type of work can be done using jacks or jack stands (or a stack of bricks for the bravehearts).  I did it for decades, but it just ain't as much fun as being able to walk around under the car!

I fitted some arch guards from Arch Guardian a while ago but I have not been happy with the amount of protection the front guards give from stuff flicking up from the front wheels so I have just ordered some rallyflapZ from :link: shortieZ | Mudflaps to fit Hyundai i30N Hatch FL 2020+ Black 4mm PVC *Gloss N-SI | eBay , not cheap at around $200au for the set but look like they are quality mudflap's and I have only found good reviews of them.
