I have searched around but not found any specific fix. Our FD has the flashing LCD display, it has been doing it for about a year but recently it started just not lighting up at all so i am wondering is anyone able to help point to what needs replacing in the circuitry?

Im not an electrical engineer but i dont mind a bit of tinkering to solder/desolder if i am pointed in the right direction. I have done a little bit of external troubleshooting but happy to do more, I have a dash and fader from a wrecked diesel that seems to work fine which i can swap parts across if needed. I have checked and its just the LCD display not the whole cluster and ive double checked its not the fader and also the diesel dash. Its all of the backlighting for the display, not just one quadrant which makes me think it is something behind it controlling the lighting. Can anyone help please?

I bookmarked a thread from this site, for when mine needs repairing. there an array of 12 surface mount leds in the cluster, one or more go bad and cause the flash. Most of the images are still hosted, Sourcing the leds might be the hardest task.   Do a search for       2009 i30 dashboard background light unstable

I am sure i read that thread eons ago when i first joined, but totoally forgot about that part of it. I will try to resolder the joints first and hope that fixes it. I have the spare diesel dash i can take any spare LED's from if needed, can i just put a multimeter across their terminals to check for continuity?

So the LCD lights have finally decided to give up the ghost over the holidays. I pulled a 2nd hand instrument cluster off a diesel and tried to swap the LED backlights and the LCD but no change. Any other thoughts as to what to look at before i pull it out and take it to a repair shop to unload $400-500 for the repair?

Just to complete the circle i took mine in to get repaired, ended up replacing all the LED's as about half we gone and the new ones were a little brighter. Dash is now looking crisp and bright again, ~NZ$270 later
