Low Oil Pressure Warning at Low RPM – 2017 Hyundai i30 1.4 T-DGI Premium (36k miles, Full Hyundai Service History)
Hi everyone,
I’ve recently started experiencing a red low oil pressure warning light, but only under specific conditions:
It only appears when the engine is up to temperature
It only comes on when the revs drop below ~1500rpm
At idle (just below 1000rpm when warm), the warning light is consistently on
Other than the warning light, the engine sounds normal, and the car generally feels fine to drive. The only thing I’ve noticed is that it might feel a little sluggish in 1st gear when pulling away, but since I haven’t owned it long, I don’t have a solid comparison.
The car is under warranty with the garage I bought it from, and I’ve already booked it in for a diagnostic, but I wanted to get some opinions in the meantime.
I checked the oil level, and it seems to be right on the High mark of the dipstick—not overfilled as far as I can tell, but I’m unsure if this could be contributing to the issue.
Could a slightly high oil level cause this problem?
Could this be a faulty oil pressure sensor, or should I be more concerned about the oil pump?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
