95% of the road noise is the tyres.
Hi all have had both standard and now slx alloys on vehicle, the standard rims that ran hankooks were very quite, but when i bought the alloys from another member the alloys came with kumho,s now they are a very noisy tyre. I suppose what im trying to say is when you buy your next set ask the dealler how much road noise do the tyres put out most of them are pretty good and will inform you on how much road noise the tyres put out and if not you should return and tell them where to place them and get a replacement set

We had 16" Alloys with kumho Optimo on our SLX CRDi .. the wife (TrishCW) now has kumho Solus 15" on her CW (I think the 15" are a bit quieter than the 16" were) but no back to back comparison as we traded the CRDi about 4 months before we got the CW...
But others can be quiet on one car and noisy on another - even in one celbrated case we had in Innisfail many years ago. One Holden Statesman - noisy as all get out. Dealer took tyres off and fitted an alternative, fixing the problem. The next week an identical Statesman came in. As an experiment he re-fitted the (noisy) tyres. Quiet and as smooth as you could ask for.
