Here in Norway the importer of Audi, VW and Skoda has just announced that they from the beginning of the year will give a 5 year warranty on all new cars.

I wonder what this will do for the Hyundai sales....

I feel sorry for all the guys that bought one of these brands over the last few months and only get 2 years warranty - but most of all I'm so happy I'm not one of them

Assuming they also drop their prices by 40% and increase their customer satisfaction levels then the i30 might have more competition.....

To be honest though, it's just a sign of the times. Here in the UK car sales are going to be tough for the next 6 months (or longer). Today the goverment added another 2.5% VAT to everything including cars, and we DIDNT get a rush of new members yesterday saying "I just ordered my i30 ahead of the VAT increase".

Of course if anyone out there did this, please post and tell us!

Quite a few manufacturers have jumped on the warranty bandwagon, KIA and Hyundai were first but lately we have seen in the UK Vauxhall offer a "lifetime" warranty which lasts as long as the original owner keeps the car or 100k miles (not transferable) and Chevrolet are now doing a 5 year pledge including servicing and MOT.

 Hahahahah, Lorian.

I know this seems a bit after the event, but on my word of honour I bought my new i30 when I did on the prediction of one of the political pundits that whomever won the election VAT would go through the roof.  I hasn't gone up as much as I imagined but it has gone up.

I remember saying to the sales guy something about an expected VAT rise and he looking at me as if I'd lost my grip on reality.

Now I have to be honest and say that I don't often do things right but I did this time.  Not only got one of the nicest cars I have ever owned, but I got it before the VAT went up too

The Warranty, I agree with the others, they're all late adopters who are forced into doing the right thing, they don't wanna do the right thing but they have too to survive

Before VAT was around do you remember Purchase Tax at 25% on luxury goods !!!!

I take it a car would have been taxed at this rate.

I sure do, the labour party introduced it as an emergency thing.  It has to be said tho that it was 'ONLY' luxury goods, and obviously didn't remain for too long.

This won't affect the pound in your pocket...  I know, I know, that was Harold Wilson but I just couldn't resist it.

And don't forget campers, our great leader has told you 'WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER............'   Yeah right David, like our relatives left 'US' four million in an off shore tax free Islands.

AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
