I should be taking it in in 7-10 days according to AutoGlass;
My excess is £60. I'd like to know what Dazz's is too

At least you don't need to find £380 (approx $760 oz)

Good news at least not having to wait 8 weeks!!!
Just hope it holds out for you until delivery.

Assume Unlimited claims as nothing in my policy to say otherwise. Only cost is the excess payable on each claim. Not like Daz

The £440 was the cost to the dealer

I should imagine my insurance will be paying much more than that to source the windscreen via the dealership, plus the labour charges.

As you say, unlimited claims subject to the excess each time.

Actually you just reminded me. I'm gonna ask AutoGlass if they plan to order more of these i30 windscreens *just in case*

We seem to be lucky here as lot of different windsceen company's, i think a lot of windscreens must break? i also think these company's make them as they always seem to look even better than stock, no problem with all those sensors and things eather Shambles, as a Mate at work has a late model M Benz with all those sensors they replaced it at work they make it look easy too.probably have a lot of practice. the windscreen i priced @ $200 not fitted was for i30 SLX as they asked what model, i'm not sure if SLX is different in the windscreen than the SX i could not imagine it would be less than $200 for the SX.
with a new car it's easy, with old cars it was much harder, thats what i have worked out just watching them replace them.

I had al large six inch crack in my i30 windscreen about 4 weeks after delivery. I was driving along a normal road and a stone hit on the far left edge. The crack slowly got bigger over time.

I rang my (UK) insurance company (Admiral) and asked them who i should contact they said if I dealt with Autoglass or National Windscreens then I would only have to pay £70. My normal excess is £160. This is a pretty normal arrangement for UK car insurance co's.....

Anyway I rang both neither had a replacement in stock and National Windscreens rang hyundai UK who also hadn't got any in stock either. It all happened a few weeks before my holiday to Florida, so I didn't hold out much hope to get done before I left.

Anyway I spoke to my dealer who agreed to order the right one for me, providing NW's faxed over an order to them. NW did this, the dealer ordered a screen, it took four weeks, which I didn't think was too bad, considering there weren't any in the UK. they fitted the replacement one day before I flew out and they did a great job, you really wouldn't know it wasn't the original one...

Anyway if you're waiting for a replacement, it might be worth asking your dealer to order it for you... At least you'll know they'll order the correct one based on the VIN number..  :)

Got a call today and booked her in for next Monday.

Got home (40+ miles) and as luck would have it, the whole thing blew. Top to bottom, "the full crack".

So called them up and said I was on my way regardless of whether they could fit me in.

Never have I met such professionally minded people. Soon as I got there three of them jumped in to get it sorted. Part of their enjoyment was never having seen an i30 (this was mentioned to me).

So off I went for a walk having been told it would be 2 hours.

Got bored and wandered back after 1 hour and they said it would be 15 mins and was no trouble at all.

The guy in the pic is polishing the screen, just before he started polishing all the other glass  :D  :D

Sorted.

Seems a good firm to fit you in on speck. Give them a mention for 1st class service.

I know you'll only have to pay the excess but did they say what was the cost of the glass/fitting?

Did it come from Hy or was it a clone? - you can tell by the etching on the glass.

Is yours heated/tinted etc.

And finally - Do they have another just in case?

I only saw the bill for the trims, which they ordered and fitted in case they "broke" the originals, which they did. The trims were £40+VAT (2 required) and the glass cost is mentioned somewhere above in this thread.

Cost me £60. I am pleased with it and it does have some of the Hyundai markings on it, but not all that my old one had.

It's got all the heating elements and rain sensor area, though I haven't checked them out yet.

Thanks camerooney... appreciate the sympathy...

I was on the main drag between Devonport and Launceston.. a national highway! Seems to be a fair bit of loose stones around at the moment. It was raining and on was sitting on about 110km (by the GPS) about 3 or 4 car lengths behind a Rodeo or similar ute...

I do that trip every week, its an excellent road and really beautiful scenery (in the daylight). Now I am glad I got windscreen insurance with AAMI.

I lived five years in Darwin (in the 70's) and had a few broken windscreens so fitted a stoneguard above the bonnet on my 1975 HJ panel van. it took a few weeks to get used to, because you are looking at a wire mesh, but after a while you don't notice the wire mesh, its as though it isn't there. The screen worked really well. Now those roads were bad!

Some of you may not know what you can do to minimise  screen damage, if you are on a section of dirt, gravel or new bitumen and passing another car, touch five fingers on the screen - it dissipates the shock. I was doing it the other day, (it becomes automatic) you need to be flexible with your wrist in an i30!
Passengers can do it too.

I bet some of you remember the Nullarbor in the 70's? One section had 300 miles of dirt road, and if there was water on the road it was scary, because you didn't know how deep it was, and some of it was corrugated, so you could travel at 20mph or go over 60mph and just hit the top of the corrugation - scary! If you went at 40mph it shook the car to bits!

There was also a similar length of dirt road in South Australia between Adelaide and Alice Springs.

And that was nothing compared to the Alaska highway (late 70's). I still remember coming across an accident. A mobile home was flipped over by the side of the road. Elderly couple were badly shaken, but not injured. The ONLY reason for the accident was there was a truck coming the other way and just not enough room to pass. The truck was very close to the edge, the mobile home just ran out of room, hit the ditch and flipped!

The roads these days are so much better!

Hi Shambles,

My repair has been deferred until I recover from the dreaded lurgy... Did they say they liked your car?  :D

The fitters didn't comment as I didn't speak with them, but the suit who drove it round to the front for me said the seats were "comfy"  :)

I finally got around to getting my new screen put in and didn't like the look or the rubber strip across the top (didn't look as neat as the original factory one)

Have included a pix of the Tiida one which is similar (a real dirt trap)

So I got them to replace it with the more traditional style (see 2nd photo...)

Mine was ordered with a replacement set of trims and is identical to the old one. Glad you got it sorted at last.

Hi Shambles,

They got the original rubbers too but made a bit of a botch up (too much black gunk I think) They reckon they could tidy it up but didn't fill me with confidence so I encouraged them to use the more traditional strip.

The delay was my fault (I lost all motivation when I was crook - only have the cough now...) :P
