I ordered in April, wanted factory cruise so had a 2 1/2 month wait, I was slightly miffed when I heard 6 speeds were becoming available but was thrilled to get my surprise.

It's a CRDI sx fuel sticker now says 4.5 l/100 instead of 4.7 for 5 speed

Dealer said he hasn't driven one yet

Thanks Guys

Peter, I'd like a gauge for instantaneous  L/100, are you in the beta program or just waiting.
Do you think the gauge will look ok, where do you plan to mount it, I tried to mount my phone/gps but it was a bit awkward and didn't work very well

Beta.

To be honest haven't thought about mounting the gauge yet.

According the the local dealer here in adelaide there has been a few 6 speeds sold already.  Many of the staff didn't even know they were some now coming with 6 speeds.  Mine is may 2011 compliance plate.  I guess it doesn't take em long to get from korea or wherever they ship from.

Cheers
Peter.

Welcome, will be great to hear your feed back, have  they got Cruise Control? & do you know if they have the DPF? great they get 4.5l/100k I'd say if you drive right with air cond off & right conditions could get down into 3's on a trip. also if you find i they do have DPF i would check best brand & type diesel to use, as some here only think it's engine oil, but if a motor seals correctly not much at all engine oil would be burnt, but plenty of diesel gets burnt and the gas's are what pass through the DPF. but i say they are a good thing!
cheers & enjoy your new drives. what colour did you get?
also thought i would say i got my betsy back in 08 i was told i had a 3 month wait so nothing changed, but good things worth waiting for. also mine was close to the start of the model run, with three 1/2 years they should be close to perfection.

Welcome mad-50... Don't worry too much (still a great car and your gear change might have a better feel to it than the new 6 speed does)  :goodjob:

My wife has a 5 speed 2.0 (MY11) and the gear change is excellent. One of the 6 speed owners said selection of 1st and 3rd was a bit hit and miss I think

Dazz someone that moves to manual & has not driven one for a while often put a car in 3rd instead of first as they are spring loaded to line up 3rd & 4th, i find it hard to beleave as you can push the gear stick all the way to the left in neutal then forward i don't beleave it would then be in 3rd, what do you think?

Yes John I think that would be in 1st and as you say they usually spring load them to settle in the 3/4 plane (I think Trish's 6 speed Tiida might have been like that....)

my 5 speed is lined up 3rd to 4th to, a truck i drove last week had the spring load lined up 2nd to 3rd, push over the left & back it's in real low range 1st but the 6 speed patern is same as 5 speed even has reverce in same place just 6th below 5th spring loaded to right

I'm the one who commented about problems with 1st and 3rd in my 6 speed. I've driven manual all my life. I know how to get it into 1st.

What I am commenting, and it may just be a peculiarity with my gearbox, because I didn't notice it during test drives of the 5 speed, is the following. Yes the gearstick centers between 3rd and 4th. When I select 1st I guess there is a tendency to push left with a little bit of forward motion too.

Well in my i30 6 speed, the separator between 1st and 3rd must extend quite low, because even the tiny forward motion I naturally have is enough to hit it. You then think you've push it as far to the left as possible, push forward and then end up in 3rd instead of 1st. I don't know if this is something that can be adjusted or I just need to learn to live with it and modify my driving style. I've driven plenty of manual cars before without ever having this.

Also my 6 speed does not have DPF. It states it on the oil cap.

Sorry M8 nobody was having a go at you...I was just trying to make mad-50 feel better and John was only guessing at possible scenarios.. No DPF, that is interesting  :scared: (thought this generation would have one..)

Sorry con, i apoligize. yes they have cable adjustment to gear change works well, tell them at first service.
Hi Daz i think if they have u2 CRDi motor they would have DPF as from all reports its part of that motors design & i think lower Co2 & 4.5L/100k combined

According to the VIN decoder my does seem to be the U2 engine according to the Euro classification. Last time I checked no letter to indicate U2 on the Korean side of VIN decoder.

Maybe Oz has U2 without DPF as our emissions standards don't yet require it.

When I accelerated quickly one night, I could see their was some smoke in rear view mirror.

Interesting.. A bit of smoke occassionally is normal for the diesel but if it gets excessive at start up could be a glow plug issue (happens but not too common fortunately)

mad-50 .. you economy should improve a bit over the next  :goodjob: 10,000 kms..

I noticed while at the Melbourne Motor Show that the i30 CRDi engine now has a different, smaller plastic engine cover.
Also, while the old one is fastened with 2 bolts and 2 clips (for want of a better word), the new one appears to be held with just clips.  :undecided:

I didn't happen to notice the DPF sticker....  :-[

Rusty i wish i could have got to the Motor Show!

I think best way to find out is like i told Bob ( ouri30 ) a while bach, he has the i30 CRDi SLX 5 speed & also a new Santafe CRDi Auto that has DPF he thought he could not notice the Santafe exhast as less sotty than the i30, but he wiped his finger in both cars exhast pipes & showed a pick of result. noticibly cleaner. but they could use DPF or remove it would not relly matter probably more economy & power with out it. the important thing is the U2 has a swerl in head & higher pressure injectors that inject 5 times also exhast set up different but i'd saw from block down the same. but eather way i love that little 1.6 CRDi motor. myself i'm a motor person first then i look at the rest of the car but. motor is my number one priority & how the motor performs & how it works. but every one to what they like personaly. a lady i know just searchs to see how many storage compartments a car has. the more the better

I would look at the head compare that against the 5 speed CRDi & also look at the injectors as are supposed to be higher pressure but you would not be able to tell that just looking still they would look different. also check the CO2 on the windscreen lable, someone said the new 6 speed has 4.5L/100k, the 5speed U motor has 4.7L/100K and 120 imission. now see who can break the 1,400k from one tank of fuel set by Bob our130 is SA, & matched by Thumper in NSW southern highlands. Bob still has his i30, thumper went to a Santafe CRDi. a number of people got the trip computer to read down in the 3.9L/100k on trips. so they are the bench mark the U2& 6 speed need to beat. will be interesting.
