Just back from holidays (2 weeks in Crete, magic!) but driving home from Edinburgh airport noticed a knocking sound from the rear when braking.

Wasn't there when I drove to the airport and parked up a fortnight ago... can't get it looked at until tomorrow at earliest, but hoping it is just something that hasn't fully released after a fortnight of non-use. Any ideas welcome though.

Is there any corrosion buildup on the rotor surface?

You didn't take the mother in law on holiday with you???

Try giving it a full hard brake or a few from 70-80kph to standstill so the rear breaks get some good work. Se if it helps any. If it doesn't help, I'd take the wheel off and give the area a good clean and lube the guide pins and check the conditions of rotors/disks/springs/bushings etc.

2 weeks on an airport parking usually builds up some rust on the rotors, and light braking doesn't apply enough pressure to the rear breaks to clean em good.

Aye, some slightly more forceful braking seems to have cleared it right up.. no more knocking.
