One of my tasks at work is to allocate street numbers to new housing subdivisions.

We quite often have people ringing up to enquire if they can check the potential street number of a block they are interested in buying and we hear stories of people who won't buy a block because it will be a number that contains a four.

Asian culture wants to avoid four, European culture wants to avoid thirteen.

If only it was that easy to avoid bad luck.
