Hi all,

I picked up my new i30 last weekend and filled the tank full shortly afterwards. I gave her her second fill up today, putting in 45 litres, having done 550 miles since the first fill-up. I make that an MPG of 55.6, which doesn't seem bad for the first tank, but is some way off the trip computer figure of 63.1 MPG (reset at the first fill-up). Has anyone else found that the trip computer MPG doesn't match the actual figure?

Nick

Hi Nick! Welcome to the club :D

I would check it out over more than a single filling to be honest. Give it a few fills and continue to keep records as you obviously are doing. There's the possibility that the filler pump you used actually gave you a lot less than it showed, but that's only a small possibility. Still, in the UK, it has been known as I'm sure you're aware.

Anyway, you've got your i30, you've joined our club, now just sit back and enjoy the ride :D

I find that the on board does not always tally with my calculated for 1 off trips.

But over a time they do seem to get closer together

I filled up today Shell standard Diesel was £1.13.9ltr and V-Power Diesel was £1.21.9ltr. I put in 44litres so will see how many miles I get!
It's still much better then my previous car which was petrol.

I don't know what you are implying with the V-Power, but generally speaking it shouldn't give better mpg since the V-Power fuel is slightly less dense than regular diesel so, per volume, the unit energy is actually lower than regular diesel.

Th V-Power is actually closely similar to the diesel we have here in Finland during the cold winter months. I is so-called "arctic diesel" that retains filterability down to -35 celsius, when the normal "summer" quality is filterable only to -20 celsius.

With the winter quality our diesel cars deliver slightly worse mpg figures as it is "lighter" than the summer stuff.

Hi Penak, i don't know enough about all the techi things but for sure on my bikes (petrol) have used V-Power previously to that optima shell and get an increase in mls per litre, having done 65,000mls on my last bike and 24,000mls on my current one it is without doubt a quality fuel.

Have only done 4,000mls in the new diesel car and is my first ever diesel car will swap fuel's using both V-Power and Standard and see if it's any different in tankfuls.
