No one lives remotely close to that location. It is considered to be in "The Outback" and is in a desert. It does have Opal there and this draws characters of various repute from worldwide to escape other people and work in solitude, hoping for that special piece of colour. It is very hot and you wouldn't know the place was there, except for a wind turbine, the main street and the cemetery named appropriately, Boot Hill.
The earth cools the dugouts and they are quite comfy. I've stayed there many years ago whilst working, but never in a dugout. Not the friendliest bunch of people if you're a stranger.
Closest members would be in Adelaide about 5 hours drive away.
