----- NOTE ------

Although there are several similar topics, i've thought of opening a new thread about oils for the... humble 1.4 petrol.
I had the same concern as Lakes * where should i post this? *  After a toss up  i've placed this topic in "Tips/Advise" rather than "General Discussion"

------------------

A couple of weeks ago i've had my first annual service (~10.000 kms) to my 1.4 petrol.
Without asking for my consent (i was not concerned either), dealer used the Part-Synthetic BP Visco 3000 10w-40, API CL/CF, ACEA A3/B3. Technical data sheet is here.
Further, he charged me €9,60/ltr.

After the service (only the oil and filter were changed) i noticed that the car "felt" slothful. Revs didn't rise up easy and noise increased a bit. Even the average consumption was increased, day by day.
I pointed that out and i was told that, this is the oil they always use and had never heard complaints about that, therefore, i was obsessed.

In my own expenses, i purchased 4 bottles (x 0,946 ltrs) of the 100% Synthetic AMSoil ASL 5w-30, for €9,80 each and an oil filter for just €3,20 from here. I choosed AMSoil over the (slightly expensive) Mobil1 ESP Formula or the Shell Helix Ultra Extra etc., though i don't know which is better (and probably nobody does...)

Dealer agreed to replace the oils and filter for €8,60. Of course i was standing near the car all the time, just to be sure...
The young guy who did the labour, confessed later-on that he wouldn't use that (specific) BP fryer-oil even in his obsolete Kia Picanto...

Finally, my i30 runs like charm again.

The moral is: don't let the dealer to decide which is best for you, do the job for yourselves and think before you buy (you probably do, but i needed to tuck the advise part somewhere...)

Babis (happy at last)
 :D

(*) another note: BP Visco 3000 isn't available (luckily) in UK, AUS, US and almost every other advanced country, so the relative websites above are shown in Greek language. Nothing to care about though...

Hi Babis,

Interesting little story... Sounds like you are best off supplying your own oil at every service... Wouldn't it have been cheaper to just get 1 5ltr bottle of oil ???

You bet on that.
Well, the 4ltrs bottle costs €38,00 so, it would have costed €0,30/ltr cheaper. Unfortunately, they were run out out of stock at that day. No big deal :)

I had a Datsun 180B auto wagon for a very short time in early 90's just as a 2nd vehicle to commute to bank relieving jobs (It was a horrible looking thing with blotchy purple paint finish but it drove ok. Can't believe I had it looking back )

Anyway, I used to put that Course plus in to stop it using more oil than petrol...I ended up selling it to my m8's sister-in-law and despite warning her to use only course plus she used something cheaper and it only lasted a couple of months after that

Fuchs oils are supposed to be very good (a premium oil indeed by the look of the pricing)

Definetely is a premium oil.

Data sheet for the Titan GT1 Longlife III is here:
http://www.silkoleneoil.com/pdf/TITAN%20GT1%20LONGLIFE%20III%205W-30.pdf

Fuchs has developped an online oil chooser:
http://www.olyslager-lubricants.nl/FuchsEurope/select.asp?language=1

According Fuchs, this oil is suitable for EOS and for an interval of 30.000 kms /24 months!
For i30 is: TITAN GT1 PRO FLEX 5W-30, TITAN GT1 PRO C-2 5W-30 or TITAN Supersyn 0W-30
