Hey all, this is my first time posting on here but ive used the advice on the forum many many times.

Recently i noticed that my 2009 i30CRDI has been making a strange clicking\cracking noise when i turn on the spot, normally to reverse park..  I was wondering if anyone had possibly had the same issues, ive read a bit about steering column\rack issues.

Also the last week ive noticed it slightly pulling towards the left, i had a full 4 wheel alignment done, got the  print outs to show its all aligned... it seems to not pull to the left any more but the steering wheel still slightly turns to left?? any way i can fix this.

Thanks

My (slightly later) 2 year old car has had this knocking since new.  I was initially told it was normal.  However my current dealer fitted a bush kit (I think) in attempt to fix the knowcking - to no avail (and that also upset the ESP).
So my car has just had the steering column replaced - and the steering knock is now all gone.
Thank goodness for the 5 year warranty I say.

Greetings ryane, What took you so long to come on board.

Can't help with the steering problem, but I was taught NEVER to turn the steering wheel without the car rolling, it gives all the steering a very hard time apparently.

The preference for steering left could be caused by the camber built into the road.

ryan, I gather your clicking noise comes as you start to turn the wheel for parking rather then just sitting stationary and swinging hard on the wheel. It seems to me this is indicating the development of a problem and you should get the dealer to check it out. Don't be put off with platitudes and refer them to this site if necessary.

Now the second issue is a bit confusing in the way you've written it. I assume it's not due to road camber as you mention it's a recent occurence. This is the confusing bit,   it seems to not pull to the left any more but the steering wheel still slightly turns to left??  You seem to be saying it isn't pulling but it is.

I'll make a guess here and suggest what you're really saying is the car runs straight on the road but while doing so, the steering wheel spokes are not horizontal (ie the wheel looks as though your car is turning slightly left). If this is what you mean, the alignment isn't right. The steering wheel should be "centred" as part of the alignment. So you need to go back to the aligner and point it out to them.

However, having said all that, I seem to remember there's some new technology in our (and other) cars where the steering column needs to be reset electronically to rectify this after alignment. There has been discussion on here about it and I'll try to find it. Hopefully Dazz will see this post. He's better at that than I am.

edit... The "steering angle sensor reset" is the technical term I'm looking for.

The other possibility is that there is a subtle uneven tyre wear on one tyre affecting the car.

I had a bit of a look and a search for "steering correction" (without the " ") came up with some interesting results .. which may relate to such an adjustment ... there is so much information on this site now it can be hard to pinpoint somethink like that .. I will send a PM to funky  :goodjob:

Thanks for your help everyone i apreciate it graetly..... i have it booked in for an inspection with hyundai on monday... lucky it still has warranty.

Surferdude sorry for the confusion with my post... Yes you are write with your guess... it travels straight on the road but the spokes of the steering wheel are NOT horizontal...

Will wait and see what Hyundai have to say. Interestingly i just got a call last night from my brother with his 2010 i30crdi asking me about a click in his steering wheel as well.. ha ha i hadnt even told him about mine :)

Thanks again guys and ill keep you posted

Success today.

Droped car off at 730am today for inspection on steering. Was given a brand new ix35 replacement car for the day that I hadn't even organises. When I say brand new literally only 250km on it.

Get a txt at three  pm to come in and get you car. I arrive to the delight to be told that the steering rack was faulty and had been replaced with a new one completely under warranty!!! Now she steers much more firmly and sharply. It's actually feels a hell of allot better too.

Ix35 was beautiful car inside and out. Only down side was the lag when u put the foot down to over take. But I can't expect much going from a 5spd turbo diesel to an automatic petrol.

Still lovely car.

Your dealer deserves an honourable mention in the Hyundai dealer thread that's currently running. Glad you're happy with the result.  :goodjob2: :goodjob: :happydance:

Ah beautiful. Will post now. Still leaning all the sections of the site.

As for ix35 I recon the 2 litre diesel would be great. Still , no i30  :P

Question with the ix. I noticed when turned the key to "reds" not actually turning motor over.  Made an odd noise like an air compressor. Though at first it was fuel pump priming but didn't sound quite like that. Any ideas ?
