I have an i30 GD and noticed the footrest was a bit loose. So I popped the rubber caps to tighten the bolts only I realise there was only one bolt! It looks like one might be missing.... Can someone check and confirm this for me?
The bolt which is visible appears to be missing the nut. You simply pop the rubber cap off and the nut/bolt is visible. Thanks :)

Can't you just pop the cap on the other one to confirm whether or not the nut is missing?  :undecided:

Yes I have done that. The other one has a nut which screws down into the car which I have tightened. The one that is missing has a bolt which is welded to part of the car and comes up. So it's a bit different and that's why I'm not sure :)

If it's loose, get the dealer to finish building the car, or go to a hardware store and get a nyloc nut.

Yep - a nyloc nut should do the job - probably 18mm. If you have one in your garage/bedroom/kitchen/loft just use it. Yes, I do store stuff like that in those places I mentioned  :undecided:

Mention it to the dealer next time you're in there. Remember, that both were missing :whistler: and you need a pair of them reimbursing...

I've had a look in the workshop manuals for the car but can't find anything related to the footrest and it's construction. Can anyone else check this for me? I plan to take it to a dealer in a few weeks when I have some time off.

I am rather surprised that your curiosity did not drive you to undoing the lower mounting bolt to determine how the footrest was attached. Mine did.

You would have found that the lower hole houses an M8 x 20mm bolt which holds the footrest in place.

There is a grooved stud (my vernier measured it as 6.88 mm outside diameter) welded to the footrest baseplate  which passes into the upper hole of the footrest. The footrest has moulded into the bottom of this hole some plastic lugs which I presume are intended to grip on the projecting stud because my car does not have a nut on this stud.  (As an experiment I tried an M8 nut on the stud but it was far too loose and an M6 nut was too small.  I can never recall seeing an M7 nut though I am sure they exist).

So the answer to your question is that you do not have a nut missing.

My footrest is quite secure and does not feel loose even with the lower bolt slackened a little.

Footrest Baseplate

Gripper lugs moulded into the base of the upper hole in the footrest.

Top sleuthing. So it's not a threaded "bolt". Could save Swelly some embarrassment.
