Just had phone call from my son to say he has received a letter re this recall.

He has my old i30, 57 plate, and I'm sure I asked about this some 3 years ago when it was first mentioned.

Told then that my cars VIN wasn't on the list but now they seem to want to do it!!!!!

Anyway phoned dealer and booked in for mid May, earliest appointment.......

Took the car in this morning and switch replaced.

Also, tigtened up the steering rod clamp  down by the pedals which was also to be done at same time.

Took 20 minutes

Just collected my i30 from the dealer (3rd year service) and was told that the brake light aswitch had been replaced and the headlamp wiring loom had a section replaced both under warranty.

The brake switch  fault is interesting because I had a Terracan some years back on which the switch failed leaving me in 'limp home' mode in the wilds of France with a caravan on tow.  A French dealer sorted it but I had to pay because French Hy have only three year warranty.  Eventually got the cost back from the French  Dealer after he had been told to submit a claim to Hy France who then  passed it to Hy UK.  Cost  me £25 for the bank charges on the refund cheque!
But I digress.  I kept the original switch and, liking to know why things fail, I stripped it as it only clips together.  There are four connectors to two sets of contacts.  One set makes and the other breaks when the brake pedal is depressed. The copper contacts were blackened through poor contact caused by  the weak spring.  I stretched the spring a little to increase pressure, cleaned the contacts and reassembled the switch to keep as a spare.  Only threw it away a few months ago.  Seems Hy cannot learn from previous incidents.
BTW it is not a safety recall as 'the brakes still work' according to Hy.

The replacement headlamp harness has a longer link section to prevent water running down it into the headlamp.
