This looks like it is replacing the 2L petrol engine, will it come to the i30 ?

I lioke the small lights on the door mirrors and this feature:

Emergency Stop Signal
When sensors detect a sharp deceleration in emergency braking conditions, the brake lights flash three times to warn other drivers that the car is braking sharply. This gives other motorists following more time to react and potentially avoid a hazardous situation ahead.

Very unlikely to introduce a 2.0L petrol i30 in the UK market in the current financial climate, IMHO.

When the i30 was first launched in Uk they had a 2l petrol.

This model was removed some 18 months ago

The 2L was fitted in the ix35 now it is only 1.6L I was wondering if the new 1.6 PETROL 133 hp engine will be fitted to the i30.

Oh I see (when you expand the engine specs data) The 1.6 is a GDI (Gasoline Direct injection) High output 1.6 ...

This is probably closely related to the 2.4ltr GDI engine in the new i45 over here which has class leading economy and power output..

I guess they will slowly upgrade to this style of engine in all models (But who knows when??)

They are not giving official economy figures for that engine yet on the site...Will be interesting to see

They are a pretty powerful 1.6 (99kw and 165nms) at similar revs to the standard 1.6 in the Oz i30 (85kw and 158nms I think) and should be quite economical with the GDi technology...

Figures don't look too tempting to me

Max power (kW/bhp) - 99 / 133 @ 6300 rpm compared to 100 / 134 @ 4000 rpm in the 2L, so you need an extra 2300rpm

Torque (Nm/lbs ft) - 165 / 122 @ 4850 rpm compared to 320 / 236 @ 1800~2500 rpm in the 2L, so half the torque with twice the revs.

Perhaps I am missing something

The 2ltr is a diesel.. you can't compare the torque.. You are happy with your lower output 1.6 Brian even though the torque is not much more than half that of the diesel..

The Diesel would be nicer to drive but I reckon the 1.6 GDi might surprise you...

No, the figures I have quoted are the 1.6GDi vs 2.0D, so you have the initial diesel lag to much higher revs in the 1.6 before it starts to pull at half the rate of the 2.0D.

This is negated in the 1.6 petrol like mine by the sheer fact that she is the petrol and therefore does not have the waiting for lag to disappear problem...............

I just think that if you were in the market for the diesel ix35 and was looking at those figures you would plump for the 2.0, the savings in insurance cost in the UK for 400CC would be outweighed completely by the difference in performance.

Think there is some confusion Brian 1.6GDi is Petrol not diesel (Gdi = Gasoline Direct Injection) same as the new 2.4 ltr in the i45...
