I'm about to purchase an i30 active petrol. The service book says every 20,000 miles although a service has just been done at 12,000. On the Hyundai website it looks like they say every 10,000. Who is correct? I don't want to mess up the warranty, thanks for any help.

Hi flobalob

 :wttc:

I think one of our UK members can help here, otherwise ask the local Hyundai dealer.

It isn't the same for every country, for some strange reason.

There is a thread covering this. I'll see if i can find it.

Service booklet details but for my 62 plate it is at 20k or every 12 months whichever first unless less than 10k then oil and filter change.

But i understand earlier and later models are different.

What year is yours?

:wttc: flobabob, yeah I can help you either I'm one of the colonials, even our normal service intervals aren't that far apart,it amazes me how the servicing differs from country to country, even IF I bought one which stated that in the service book, personally I wouldn't be running oil in mine after 10,000 miles and if this milage was to be done over a long period, say 14 to 18 months I would be changing every six months, don't care how good oil companies say their oil is,over time and use or the lack of it,it still degrades.

Look at reply No 8 here

service costs and what's involved

Which is my point. Is it every 10,000 miles or every 20,000 miles (or 12 months if sooner). The service book clearly says every 20,000 but the Hyundai website under "fixed service plan" states every 10,000 how can it be both?

My reading and how it was explained to me.

If you do less than 10k in 12 months since new or the last service you have a service at 12 months.

If within the 12 months you do 10,001 miles you then have to wait until it hits 20k or 24 months.

You will soon know if you have to make a warranty claim and it is rejected!

I think I would write to Hyundai UK and ask for specific serviceintervals for your car. Send the VIN in your mail.

Could be interesting to hear their answer.

Intervals should be simple.

If I was in the UK I would just get "mine" done every 12 months or 20,000 miles, whichever came first  :undecided:

Have received Hyundai's reply. It's 20,000 miles or every two years whichever comes sooner, it's only 10,000 miles or yearly if you purchase the fixed price service plan. That of course seems to make the purchase of the fixed price plan pointless as it's not necessary to service the vehicle that often.

Now that is not what my  routine maintenance information book states.

On page 6
Each year (12 months) it is recommended........carry out a maintenance check ........additionally.....covering less than 10,000 miles at that time should have the oil and filter replaced.  Should any of the following conditions apply...(list of  conditions detailed) .carried out more frequently.

No mention of service plan.

Please check your - routine maintenace information - and let me know if it has the above.

We did say it isn't straight forward......as your reply seems to differ from a previous reply a member got.

I would still get it done every 12 months (maximum) whatever your mileage.  :undecided:

My annual mileage is around 3,000 do you think yearly still is a good idea? If so, why would that be, cheers.

eye 30, the service book just says 20,000 or 24 months. I haven't actually got the car yet (scuffed bumper being fixed) so haven't looked at the whole service book.

My wife does about 8,000 kilometres a year (roughly 5000 miles)

We get her car serviced annually, partly because it is mandatory, but would anyway because multiple short trips are as as hard on an engine (or harder) than longer trips ..

A year is a long time and things need to be inspected for deterioration as well.. Many, like me like to also get their tyres rotated and other adjustments made.

Ok.

I'd be interested what is in your book just to see if it agrees with their reply and also my book.

I took out a 3 year service plan and had the oil and filter changed at 12months.
I was aware of the 12 month/ less than 20k requirement to have interim service to ensure warranty condition.

Service done with just over 4k on the clock.

With that low milage I would have the service done according to Hy's plan, every second year, but also an oil & oilfilter change once a year.

That low milage I assume will contain a lot of short trips, and that's why the extra oilchange is needed, in my opinion. Many short trips leaves condensation in the oil.

20,000 mile service or 2 years for major service.

However, if the car does less than 10,000 miles in 12 months then intermediate service required, filter and oil.

Whatever the manufacturer says about their amazing long service intervals, I'm inclined to ignore them! They are to attract fleet buyers who won't own a car past it's 2nd or maybe 3rd year.
10,000 miles or every year using the correct spec and grade of fluids and parts is essential.
However, if you own a car, it's up to you, Hyundai own the Warranty and if you over extend the service periodicity they can reject any Warranty claim.
They can't reject a Warranty claim if you have adhered to or shortened their Service intervals.

Congratulations on the car.  :goodjob2:
I get mine serviced every 15,000 kms which is the recommended service interval in Australia. Where I go keeps trying to change it to 10,000 kms.
However, I do the kms quickly (now doing at least 1,000 kms per week) and I make sure I supply a good quality oil (Shell Helix Ultra).

Thanks Doggie1 When I gad my Yaris T Sport I got it serviced by dealer until warranty had finished then I did it myself, every 6 months I used to service it, I loved that little car, kept it until it was nearly 10 years old, never let me down far better than the vauxhall insignia I changed it for.  I find it quite relaxing servicing and cleaning it (I m strange like that) plus it gave me a bit of time away from"Her in Doors"!;-)
