Reviving a little bit old thread.

I am a Network / Security Engineer. Lowly position with 'meh' salary but I am still grateful for the job seeing lots of unemployments here in Australia.

I have enjoyed working in Network Engineering. Albeit with couple of overtime and after work hours tasks, I still manage to enjoy it after these years. Probably something wrong with me.

G'day, currently working at K-Mart whilst studying at university. As a career, I hope to join the NSW police or NSW paramedics. Fingers crossed one of the two becomes reality!

I always appreciate the work those who work in public service eg: police, firefighters, paramedics. Not a lot of people remember them except when things go south.

The police forces around Australia. are not happy with the internally running of the force. I have 4 family members in the force.....3 here and one in NSW and a friend who is a senior sergeant here. We have a few members on here also who could give you a lot of insight as to the going ons within the force. I for one , probably try for the paramedic......good wages and not as much violence to attend too..........

Welcome. I served 36 years in the NSW Police (1967-2003) It is a good career, with good pay and promotion prospects. Only trouble is these days, you have to pay to train, i.e. pay to be at the Goulburn Police Academy and no pay until you are sworn in as a Probationary Constable.

In my opnion as a Dinosaur that is outreageous. Things are not as smooth in the Police as they were, many constraints and in house friction. All other States and Feds you get paid to train. Also the Superannuation deal these days is not as nice as the one we were/are on, but that is also relevant in many other government jobs.

Good luck anyway. The Paramedics with NSW Ambulance Service is also a good job, I know a few, but not my cup of tea.

Cheers mate! Very true in regards to the respect though.. Especially police. When things go pear shaped, they take notice. Sad.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that they don't pay to train.. Does VicPol pay those that are getting trained? Cheers for the insight though, appreciate it.

i work for a large elevator company, been there 3 yrs and have never touched an elevator.
Funnily enough, i work for the doors department. which most people don't even realise we do doors.
I install/service/repair Automatic sliding doors and roller shutters.

I suppose it's about time for me to add my blurb.....

30 years ago after being laid off I bought a vending machine business & been filling & fixing them ever since.
Was planning to get to this point & selling up and pottering around but my kids have decided they wish to carry it on. Too bad about buying me out, they don't have any spare cash so any thought of retirement is back on hold.
