Am I correct in assuming that the interior mirror is removed by pushing the base upwards off the glass mount?  If so does it require a hefty push or a few taps with a wood dowel?
Thank you.

You need to loosen the Allen screw in the mount and it will then slide off.

In my FD I'm sure the mirror come off when pushed down toward the dash...

Don't know if Baradeur's is FD or GD, but there's no allen screw to loosen in the FD.

Apologies for the omission, mine is a FD.  I cannot see an allen key and a downwards movement is counter-intuitive as the mirror could fall off if loose.
Some interior mirrors have a locking lip but, again, none is apparent on the FD mirror.

@Craig....I think the Hy Coupe has a different mirror mount with a lock screw.

Hi, I've been trying the same thing and was looking at the post here:

:link: 2009 i30 DASH RATTLE (WINDSCREEN DEMISTER VENTS)

Seems to suggest downwards (or forwards), although I haven't managed to get mine to budge yet. Probably just because I'm worried about breaking something. I've had to re-glue a rear view mirror in a previous car and it wasn't fun.

I've had mine removed due to the rattle from the mirror, but as the rattle is fixed i really don't want to remove it again.

To attach a car cam bracket.

I am thinking of using commercial quality double sided adhesive tape on the back of the mirror or screwing  to the arm.

I used 4 super magnets to attach the camera. The magnets use double sided tape 3m outdoor type and haven't slipped in nearly a year.

I tried to get my mirror off to fix a camera to the windscreen yesterday. With the past few cars I have had, you just give the mirror a heave and it comes away, and can be pressed back into place. It came away OK, but there was no way of putting it back. The piece that came off had a big countersunk machine screw hanging loose, which had been pulled out of a spring arrangement. I assumed it had come apart at the wrong place and tried to lever the remaining bit off. It did come off, with a chunk of glass. I am now waiting for the new windscreen to be fitted.

What I should have done was prise the two metal bits still attached to the screen apart, reattach the mirror to the free one with the big bolt, and slide the two bits back together.

If you want to remove the mirror then slide/prise it downwards, although it is held in by some hefty springs.

I was going to add some pictures, but I cant make them small enough.

I had a go at using google drive. link is :link: I30 Interior mirror

If this doesn't work let me know and I will try imgur.com, which I have never heard of.

The five images are as follows:-

The links need to have permissions granted for anyone with the link, to view, not modify. This is done in Google.

Many thanks.  I am glad I saw these pictures before having a go at removing my mirror.

So, to remove the mirror slide it downwards from the glass mounted base?  The circular spring projects through the sides of the mirror arm   block to engage into slots in sides of the glass mounted base to lock it in place?

A good idea.  I have plenty of the small circular magnets.  I also have a mobile phone holder where an oval plate sticks to the phone and engages an oval recess in a stick on base unit.  Don't know whether it will hold a car cam with the offset from the screen involved but it does hold a large phone without problem.

Just for the record I bought some of the 3M Outdoor Tape as recommended by Phil. Not cheap at about $10 for a relatively small roll from our local Mitre 10 store (Bunnings is 50 kms away)

It looks the same as what they use to secure Spoilers and stuff on cars and it sticks like $hit to a shovel..

I replaced the velcro I was using to hold my Car cam on to my plastic collision avoidance module in my Calais and it is very secure (thanks Phil!)  :victory:
