Can anyone tell me if the 08/09 1.6 CRDi SX has a low fuel warning, and how it is communicated to the driver?

Also, off-topic, is the air-con unit above the drivers' side wheel? I parked somewhere today and when I came back there was quite a puddle underneath. I had a miniature freak-out, even though I let some of the liquid drip onto my fingers and it seemed to just be water. Would appreciate an answer to this to put my mind at ease. I'm rather paranoid when it comes to my car's function - more paranoid than is healthy, probably.

Not sure on the low fuel warning light on the SX as mine's an SLX.
My Crdi always leaves a big puddle wherever I park with the air con on, but it usually runs out the driver's side.
(P.S. Mine's a girl car).

Drivers side, same as mine.

Girl car?

That's because this is the passenger's side on the native LHD models. They don't swap everything for RHD.  I panicked the 1st time ours did that too.

That means your a/c is working efficiently and dehumidifying the air for you.  :goodjob2:

It sure feels like it's working well. Guess it just triggered a flashback to when the water pump went on my Bluebird. Must say that I haven't noticed any loss of engine power with the aircon on, in comparison to the sluggish-ness my Bluebird would display when you punch the a/c button.

Just another advantage of the lovely diesel engine. My 3.8 Commodore certainly let's me know when the a/c is running and you can almost see the fuel gauge head to E.   :fum:

Yet to find something I dislike about diesel compared to petrol.

Engine braking = what?

Price of diesel here (Northern metro of Perth) is more or less the same as ULP. Plus, more economical!

*$0.04/L more expensive at the moment. Week before last it was cheaper. Vortex Diesel at my local Caltex was $1.469/L, which for whatever reason was the same price - or cheaper than - regular stuff at other servos.

Low fuel is indicated by a big yellow petrol (or should that be Diesel) pump on the Dash. From memory I think it is on the speedo (I don't see it all that often).

Whilst were crying about Fuel prices. LPG has gone from .545 to .869 Since Feb.

Mine low fuel light lid up today, I'm pretty sure it was in the speedo, but if you go out with a flashlight and point the light at the instrument cluster, you will be able to see all the warning lights.

By the way, I had to pay 2,10 AUD for diesel here today, petrol 95 was 2,33 AUD.  :'(

No discounting over Easter of course, the jump in ULP is a recent event, diesel has always been 10c dearer. But locally, it's on par with diesel. I hate fuel companies.

Needle is getting fairly close to E, and nothing's happening yet. Guess I'll keep going, at least until it appears. Is there a warning tone that works with the light?

And what IS the deal with the hike in LPG? I mean, I've never used it but I have noticed the jump. It's not like the mileage LPG gives is worth 87c/L. Right?

Back in my working days I got lumbered with a company Falcon with dual fuel.
The gas used to give me about 90% of the economy of unleaded IIRC, so it's still a good deal. But I won't ever voluntarily have LPG in a car of mine.

That's a lot better than what I thought! I still plan on following your policy - not voluntarily having LPG in a car I own. Diesel all the way for me now, I think  :)

edit: don't LPG tanks also have limited life?

I converted the wives BA, with the system I have (which is now one generation behind the new LPI Falcon) You wouldn't notice. Each cylinder has its own injector, no power loss, and most importantly no backfires. You wouldn't know you were driving an LPG car, and its much better than the old ones I used to own (same as the Egas ones)

Like all LPG tanks, they need to be retested every 10 years.

Apparently a new Gillard LPG tax, the end of a gas war, added with increased demand from a cold winter overseas are responsible for the extra slug.

Getting back on topic, there is no tone, just a light, but it is fairly large, so you won't miss it.....

Well, the engine makes coughing and spluttering noises. That's a clue :P

Hi 1DDR.. You should get close to 100Kms in the diesel (on the light..) So don't panic  :whistler:

We had a CRDi for 28 months  :goodjob:

IIRC there were several more fairly in-depth posts here too which were pretty helpful.
Maybe the posters could re-post.

every car does it!

And I used to be like you.  I freaked out on one of my old cars when I saw a puddle under it and jacked it up to look for a leaking radiator hose or something.

If you touch it and it looks and smells like water, then it is.

If it's green and smells like coolant, or brown and smells like oil, then that's cause to worry! :D  But until then don't let your brain fool you into worrying.
