Hi Everyone,
I have recently bought a 2008 i30 Estate. There is nothing in terms of history with the car.

I was cleaning the boot and noticed a disconnected wire hanging loose near the 12v socket (which works).

Could anyone give me a clue what it is?

Note the reversing sensors don't seem to work. Not sure if it's related to that issue.

Photo attached.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi and  :wlcome01:

Looks like a lamp connector to me, though they normally only use 1 wire (live); have you tested if there's power to it at all times (or maybe just when the hatch is open) ?

My guess is a former owner had tapped into that 12v supply for some accessory.

Hi,
I tried to put a DVM on the connection that is exposed, but it just sat at near zero when I used a separate ground.
I'll try and find some very thin wire to stick in and try again 👍
I'll keep you posted.

Remove the trim and have a proper look. There's 2 wires , is the connector 2 pin?

 :crazy2: Australian common sense!   :goodjob2:

You may see the line to the sensors too. But they will (should) not  be related to a 12v aux point.

I suspect some remnant of an aftermarket add-on, just using the 12V socket location for convenience.

... but I'm not convinced it's tapping the 12V. Anyway, academic by the time we're done speculating.

Too much time on our hands and not enough socialising. We're down to "two wire" comms just to be entertained with "No earth"

Hi...
Sincere apologies for the ridiculous delay.

I took the panel off today and found that the disconnected wire runs in to a reverse parking module of some kind.

The attached photo shows wiring connectors going in to the parking distance control module. The module has a hyndai sticker on it.

Connector in "box 1" in the photograph  has two wires piggybacking into the reverse light -ve, and another two connecting to the reverse light +ve. It looks bodged, as the wires are just twisted together, albeit well twisted. 12v reaches the module when in reverse gear (engine off).

Connector in "box 2" is the mystery wire not connected to anything.

The 4 other connectors in "box 3" are the sensors. All of which show open circuit when tested with a multimeter. I don't know if that is valid or not.

The red and blue wire between my forefinger and thumb comes from the leftmost connector and doesnt connect to anything.

Is there a publicly available pinout diagram for that module?

I'd probably buy a new module, if I could find one.

Dave.

check but it vaguely looks like this, presumably dealer -fit rear parking sensors

Perfect.

It was the "speaker" wire from that module. I guess it was deliberately disonnected by the way it was conveiniently dangling in th boot. It looks like the speaker is missing - as least I can't find it.

There is a constant ~10V to the speaker wire (I must have failed to connect my meter to it initially), so I guess that means it would be sounding all the time. Resistance accross the sensors is always open circuit - which are 2 pin units.

I'll try and find a speaker, or if not, get a replacement unit.

Thanks all for your help.

Dave.
