My 2.0 manual cw has a slight engine knock for a second or less when I start the car when it's warm. Strange. Tried premium petrol to see if that was the issue but problem persisted. Anyone else had something similar? A trip back to the dealer might be in order.

Hi izzy..

I'm guessing you are still running on the original oil seeing as you have only had your car about 2 months.. See what the dealer says but I would be tempted to do an interim oil change with some really good oil (something fully synthetic 5W-30 or 5W-40) and see if that makes a difference ...

Hi iZZY

I'd certainly go back to the dealer; an engine knocking sound is not something to be ignored. How long has this been happening?

(PS Dazz I think he's had the i30 longer than 2 months :P)

Based on the very small description It could be anything. About the only thing we can rule out is a cat caught in timing belt (they make a different noise). Trip to the dealer definitley in order.

A "knock" at start would perhaps suggest a lack of oil flow... but when warm? No, unless your oil is water-thin when warm.
I think something else... let's know what your dealer says. Perhaps a cat... although as Lorian says, slightly different noise.

There is the trade-in  option for a new model, but i find after they are run-in they all perform the same,
did tell her if the noise didn't stop i would post a picture of the scratch she put in my new i30.
if it had been me that did it, i wouldn't hear the last of it! :-\

They they all end up doing the whining when they get a bit of mileage on them (and a wedding ring on their finger..)

A bit off topic guys.

But do we know if the engine knock has been resolved?

That sounds to me like a typical sound you can get if the exhaust is out of alignment.
