Ever since we have had our Niro - both key fobs have been erratic and sometimes it takes several button presses to open or lock the car.

A post on the Niro forum from other members suggested that the batteries needed changing.

There is an excellent You Tube video to illustrate the steps - as follows.  I changed our batteries and the problem is resolved

If you have this type of Hyundai or KIA fob, changing the battery is easy

Position the fob as shown below, insert a finger into the key slot and pull the cover off

Lever out the old battery in direction shown

Pop in the new battery, replace the cover and you are done.

Nice job, Alan.
But why would a relatively new car need batteries already?

It would appear that the early Niros had grumpy chinese fob batteries, according to a few posts I have found on the forum, who mention that their dealer has done it free of charge.

It was easier for me to do it myself - it is a standard  CR 2032 3v button battery which I keep in stock for other domestic devices. They cost around 50 pence and it took less than 2 minutes to fit.

That's quite cheap, what brand did you go with?

Energizer - a batch of 24 (4 blister packs each containing 6 batteries) from Ebay a couple of years ago. They cost £3.50 per card which works out at 58 pence per battery.

The expiry date on the pack is 07/2025

There is a Tyrepower store in Dubbo, NSW which is also a battery specialist. Obviously car, truck and farm batteries but he also had a big display stand of all those button batteries.
I needed one for my watch when I was there one day and when I wanted to pay him for it, he wouldn't take any money. I tried to insist but he pointed out they cost him less than 20¢ each. Regardless of size.
