So today while i was out threatening our i30 with being re-homed (went car window shopping)
I found a 2010 I30, with 20,000kms on it.. twenty thou not 200....
It looked ok, pretty straight, paint ok and the doors seemed a little tight to open and shut, but it had new tyres on the front? and major sun/UV damage to the headlights, (yellowing) and the usual road rash little repaired chips across the front of the bonnet.
Is it just me or does anyone else think its a little weird to have had two new tyres on the front after only 20k?
Little worried in general as we were looking at a few other cars in the same yard that also seemed to have suspiciously low mileage but worked up wear and tear?? :scared:

I believe around that time the Newman Government came into power, and changed the fleet rules.

Hyundai i30's were a fleet favourite at the time. I believe that there were plenty left unsold when the Qld Government stopped buying.

I got a My11 in December 2012 it is showing some sun damage to the roof rails and it has lived in the garage (I assume that it would have spent its time in a paddock somewhere).

I would think if the previous owner left it outside it would be showing the signs.

Still, walk on, you can do better  :D

My 2010 i30 has new tyres all round, I hadn't worn the old ones out as I do very low mileage, it was just that on the previous years MOT I had an advisory saying 'all tyres cracked'.

Does the dealer have a service history for the car, I assume those should show the odometer readings for every year.

He may be a crook, but I wouldn't take him to court just yet. :)

My understanding is cracked tyres is not in it self an mot fail.
As i have had this and car passed

If you can see the webbing/steel innards it is.

Considering to change the mileage on an I30 you need to remove the cluster, send it to a calibration specialist and somehow get them to agree to reset it i would guess the mileage is genuine.

Yeah i wont make the mistake of a hyundai again, :( but made me wonder how hard odometers were to hack, looked up a few different obd videos and its scary how easily people are doing it aparently? Just plug in, look for the right info and flash the new data into the appropriate spots? Hyundai must be a bit dofferent then all the other euro cars they showed hacking on the side of the road??

I was talking with a mate about it today and aparently he bought a 300zx with super low mileage and a carfacts report picked up that it was sold previoulsy with higher ks or whatnot and are looking into legal options so it must still be pretty popular out there?

What you couldn't just bang this bad boy in and lose a few ks?
