Took the i30 and RAV4 in for their mandatory annual MOT tests today - done at a renowned Toyota dealership

Both passed, and got a good safety report  :goodjob:

Not quite so clear cut on the RAV4  :sweating:

Do you have to take that test every year..

We must have our cars tested first time when 4 years old, and then every second year.

At 3 years then every year thereafter...

Cost is £54.00 per test but a few test stations will do it for less usually £25 -£30.  Some even do it for £20.

I'm wary of those that charge way less than the correct fee as I think they will find/invent problems so they can charge you for repairs.

I have read were a qualified mechanic got his wife to take his car for a test.  Car was A OK.

It failed on a number of points...and when he challenged the garage they said that it must have been an oversight etc etc etc and duly issued a pass certificate.

The garage was reported and I think lost its status....

I see 2 red on the Rav but too small to read.

What are they?

Did the RAV have a female tester?

If you click the thumbnail it should show up larger.

Yes, it was a female tester.

The red markers are about the brake pads which I've got ready to fit when it gets warmer.

As for the 2nd amber note, I had to jumpstart the RAV last Saturday as these days Shaz only seems to be driving when its dark, and the battery isn't getting charged. The RAV started immediately but showed a CEL/MiL warning light, which I read from the ECU as P1135 (air/fuel heater sensor 1 on bank 1). I cleared the ECU fault but it came straight back. The sensor hasn't gone bust and the dealership agreed as the emissions were perfect (ie, no unburnt fuel seen). So she has to live with the engine warning light on. The cost of a new sensor is £287 and isn't guaranteed to cure the underlying fault (which I think is ECU-related).

If only everything in life was simple :(

Was 8C and slightly sunny here today.  In fact not far off Factor 15 weather.

Don't be a wimp.......  Get out and get it done........

Did that and for your car I can just read it.

For the Rav it was smaller than i30 and hard to read.

Yes, it was a female tester.

Pin up?
