today when i had my center console apart  i noticed that on the back of this panel had space for something else
first off  what is the name of the panel (part) and what goes in to the back of it in the middle

I took that panel off to wire my GPS and noticed that too. I guess it's available but has never been used. Choose power socket, USB socket, guage or other indicator. I've just called it the cigarette lighter panel but it may have a name in the workshop manual.

I have that on my 2012 gd model.

Cig lighter no longer there. Replaced with power socket so now have 1 each side

But the cigarette lighter is a power socket,you can just buy the caps if your that pedantic about it having a cap,I just put the lighter back in the hole,or leave my power line in there.

What Lester means is that you no longer get the lighter, most manufacturers now have that as an option called the smokers pack.
