So we collected the new cars yesterday & the consumption figure was 16.4l/100kms. We went for a little drive today so the odo now shows 290kms & the consumption is tumbling & is now shows 9.2l/100kms. So it's going in the right direction.
Hoping to get more than 650km out of this tank, but I'm getting to like the push when you put the foot down so it might be a tall order.

well when you first drive off, motor cold, they richen up, as this is the first few K's a new car has done, plus it's Auto it can go up like that the further you go without re setting trip pc it will get more realistic. i test drove a brand new Ford Focus diesel 2.0L 6 speed manual back in 2008 b4 buying my first i30, & trip pc read 27L/100k on that but the salesman just pointed to sticker on window that said average fuel consumption.
hey good you got the new car enjoy it.

It's currently sitting at 7.6l/100km, which after getting away from 11.4l/100km, is really good! Oh I forgot to use the the Eco button too.

I'm not convinced the Eco button has much of an effect. Like you I have not had the auto diesel long enough to determine if it does much at all.

I'd like to hear another owner's experience with this little button.

Unfortunately, no one actually knows what it does. Probably lights a LED up somewhere and nothing else.

Probably stole the idea from my old EL Falcon. It had an economy button, and a light too.

Did 2/10 of SFA.

Isn't it supposed to lower the shift points in the auto trans?

@ Mag Gladiator,  According to the text it smooths out the accelerator function, so if it was an auto, the shift points would probably change as a result.

This all sounds like a bad idea to me. If I need to get out of the way in a hurry, I don't want a computer worrying about how much fuel is being used. If I had it, I'd turn it off.  :fum:

We tried it in both our cars. It made no noticeable difference to fuel consumption but then both cars still have few km on the clock. It may make some difference when the engines have a few more k's.

IMHO, I think it's a gimmick, unless your driving a very long way on a gently undulating road on a trailing throttle!

Well topped the i up for the first time today, 706kms took 45.21 litres. So that equates to 6.4l/100km I think!
Cost $68ish. The forester used to cost between $74-$82 per tank, & if I got 450 Kms I was a happy boy.
Think I'm going to like owning a diesel!

Quick update.
Just over 2200km, getting 5.5 on the fill up's but the computer says 7.2!
Looks like paying the extra for the diesel is paying off!

Well that's 3500km under the rims & topped her up again yesterday. Dash says 7.2l/100km, but working it out the old way, that's how much you put in the tank, it's doing 5.5l/100km.
That's all town driving too.
Pretty happy with it to be honest.

Something wrong there Sparky. Those two figures should be much closer than that if calculated correctly. Your figures have a 30% difference. The trippys seem to be quite accurate even if a little optimistic. If you were really getting 5.5 I'd expect the trippy to say 5.4 for instance.

Rule of thumb: At 5.5 you will be getting 1000 Km to the tank.

Skaryinaus,
Do you reset the average fuel consumption each time you fill up? My wife never resets hers and when I get in it it always reads high. I fill her car up and reset it and drive it for a week and it is then a lot closer to actual figures.

ECO button on the wifes GD Premium petrol does lower the shift point and changes gears sooner. It also holds on to a gear longer before it kicks back, I definately notice this when driving it and playing with the button. Its a lot better car to drive with it off IMO. It may also alter the "ramp up" in the fuel settings, a lot of common rail diesels do this for economy. (Ramp up is the rate that the fuel is delivered which would alter the rate the power comes on, which saves fuel but not that noticeable to a driver).

Re: Resetting the fuel average economy at refill.

It is possible to change the settings using the setup facility available through the steering wheel buttons.  Check your manual on how to access this feature.  One of the settings turns on the auto fuel economy reset at refill.  That should help those whose other half forgets to reset the average fuel economy at refill.

IMHO, the Eco button is a waste of time around town.
I reset the trip & consumption button on every fill up.
Seem the low fuel light comes on with a lot of fuel in reserve, only get to put between 40 & 44 litres in her!
