Nice Trev, Looks like brand new... Say congrats to Claire for us. :goodjob:

Trish had a near new 5 Door Manual Toyota Yaris for 10 days in the Northern Territory and was quite impressed!

That's about the same age as my partner's Ascent sedan.  Should go forever with no trouble.  1.8 (chain-driven cam), very quiet motor, 4 speed auto (if it's auto) which is perhaps a bit out-dated today with 5 and 6 speeds being fairly common but I would expect that the 4 speed is well proven.  I think the latest auto Corollas have a CVT transmission.

Yeah Eureka. 4 speed auto.
Given VW's problems with the variable speed trans, I'm not keen to try even Toyota's version and it was another reason going s/h, although with just 24,000 klms on it as an Ozcare car, it's barely run in.
It's Claire's 4th Corolla so we're pretty familiar with them by now.
We bought it through Sunshine Toyota (who are directly opposite Sunco Hyundai ( :-[) at Currimundi and I have to say it rates among the most satisfying car buying experiences in my life. They are dong $220 fixed price servicing even on their S/H cars but I don't know if this is common among Toyota dealers or just their own initiative. Also get an extra 3 years limited warranty after the manufacturers warranty runs out. I'm quite happy to pay $220 for each service at least for the forseeable future.
One interesting thing I noticed. Two of the hubcaps (passenger side) had the usual curb scrapes on them. I was going to ask if they'd swap them with one of the others they had in the yard but decided not to bother. When we picked it up I noticed none of the hubcaps had scratches on them. They just changed them and didn't even make a big thing of it.

Lovely to drive. We set off over the highway this morning to get it up over 100 kph and make sure there were no vibrations or shakes, then called into Beerwah, not far from Australia Zoo for a coffee. Walking back to the car we passed a little pet shop with one (just one) 7 week old kitten for sale. A Tabby/ ragdoll cross. It's three years since we said goodbye to our beloved Samantha and it was time.

So now we have a new car and a new cat.

Pics to follow. (of the cat).

Incidentally, at 24k I expected the front tyres to be pretty R/S but they're not half worn and even the shoulders are OK. I checked the spare an it hasn't even been on the road.
Goodyear Excellence all round (  pretty top of the range tyre and one I was considering for my Hyundai next time. These things are wearing very well and the rears look almost new. I'll rotate F to R sometime soon.

Tinting next week by the guy who did Kylie's Accent. $240 including the strip along the top of the screen.

I can get genuine floor mats through my Brisbane contacts for $99. Will see if Sunshine Toyota will match that.

I just checked the tyres on her Corolla: Goodyear Excellence too.  Her sedan rides very quietly.  I should have checked out the availability of these tyres when I got new tyres several months ago.

That was good of the dealers to swap the scraped wheel covers.  It must be the sort of business practice that can win them more business in the future.

My mum would be happy with the cat.  She's into cats.  There is a cat from 2 doors up that has been visiting her for a few years and recently there was a black cat with no tail and she has adopted that one.  She said not that long ago that she had a cat as a kid, called Woopy/Woopie (maybe there should be a 'h' in Whoopy)

My brother had a 1982 Corolla sedan from new; 1.3 manual.  It did well over 400,000 klms but by then the body was a bit battered and rusty and the upholstery was stuffed from being parked outside.  He only stopped driving it a couple of years ago.  It did have a problem differential early in its life, which was eventually fixed by someone fitting a diff from a Japanese market import.

Hmmm.
Couple of interesting things to update.

Him/Her?
Vet says she can't be sure at only 9 weeks but there's a better than even chance "Joe" might be "Jo'  :snigger:
We'll know for sure when "it" gets the second vaccination in 4 weeks.
Then, a few weeks later "It" it'll be.

Guy is here doing the window tinting on the Corolla.
He found a tiny piece of window tint down below the seal on the rear quarter panel.

It seems the car yards strip off any existing tinting as part of their detailing for sale - so they can sell you tinting.  :disapp:

This guy does one of the biggest multi franchise dealers on the coast and reckons it's great for him.

Male cats don't get "stitched" at all.  The just slice open the scrotum, cut out the "offending bits", and it seals itself up.  No really, I did work experience in a vet surgery many moons ago.  Surprised the heck out of me!!  Not too mention, brought a tear to my eye.

Yeah. The vet had explained all that to me before she stuck a thermometer up "its" bum and noticed the possibility of him being her.

In this same vet surgery, during my first day, a male cat came in for desexing.  The cat was put on the table and the vet said to call the owners and tell them that their male cat was actually female, and did they still want it desexed.  The owners wanted to go ahead, so when the cat was opened up we found out that not only was their male cat, actually female, but he/she was also already pregnant.  That is when I had to leave the surgery due to nearly passing out.
