Seeking a bit of a challenge I have rebuilt a 2009 I30 wagon, changed from a manual to an auto as well. I bought a 2011 doner car that had been T Boned for the parts. Swapped everything forward of the firewall, swapped dash, steering and all harnesses. Pretty happy so far, still need to replace front seatbelts,, bleed brakes and some detail work.

But here's my problem , car won't start... Cranks fine. Matching ECU, immobiliser, key etc. in use.
Do not get the immobiliser symbol on dash when cranking engine. Called in auto electrician, he left w ith no result except saying take it to diesel specialist... Hmmm.

Sent engine ECU to company in The UK , reported ECU works fine if immobiliser bypassed. Seems crash data has shutdown ECU. Can someone help with how to get a start. Need to finish off some items like aircon etc and would to sort this without just dragging it off to a dealer.

My background is aircraft electronics with access to some good test equipment, but not a Hyundai OEM scan tool.  Help please, I'm getting too old for this frustration.

Cheers from Australia

My guess is that you need an ECU Upgrade and immobiliser diagnostics to be performed. These functions are part of the Hyundai GDS (Global Diagnostic System) in use worldwide. It is an online system, requiring both a username / password and the technical know how, to perform these adjustments. Available only at Hy, dealerships, I would say.

Or there could be a fault in the engine itself, not related to the ECU.

Thanks Beerman, I had read that post and unlike the person submitting I don't give up easily.... Just keep waiting and I will sort the issue. I have joined an ECU forum just to Learn more. I know that the ECU can be reprogrammed and select the immobiliser function off. I'm quite happy to delve into the ECU and learn. I have been at this stage for about six months now so am in no hurry.

Cheers, Dave.

Would the 2011 stuff plugging into 2009 stuff cause an issue given the 2011 is the FD2? As you can see I'm all over this tech stuff!

Good thought Beerman,

My CW  has  full 2011 engine, transmission, electrics, dash etc from the doner car. Only the body, rear suspension and wiring aft of the front seats is still 2009.

Good thought Beerman,

Then the different modelyears don't mean anything.

Did you have the new 2011 engine started before building it into the car, or have you no idea wether the engine was able to start when you bought it..

It might be a faulty camshaft pos sensor or something alike.

Have you tried to bleed the fuel filter, there might be a airloom in there. Not sure, but I don't think the system is able to bleed itself. There's a Little handpump present at the fuelfilter.

Do you have an OBD diagnostic Tool handy... you can get a OBD reader to put into the diagnose plug in the car and then, free, get an APP for your smartphone called Torque Pro, that should make you able to find any present faultcodes from the ECU.

I don't have this thing, but I know others in here have, they might be able to tell you more about what these Things can.

Which key are you using?

We had an Iload at work that had a stuffed key, presented the same symptoms. Would crank then stop.
