Hey Guys
I have a i30 Premium Petrol 2013.
It has not been starting in the mornings and when it is warm.
Service department cant fault it but said they updated the car while it was serviced.
Dropped it in over night at the dealer who tested it in the morning who then went on to say the update should of fixed it.
But little do they know I have a dash camera recording when the car ignition is on and I got them on the camera saying there is no fault but we will tell them that it was a update because the customer wont be happy. hmm not a good look.. :fum:

Attached is the video I recorded today with how it starts      :link: IMG_0945_zpsa9bb9d96.mp4 Video by mummy2lilly_595 | Photobucket
Please help.
P.S I have it booked in with another Hyundai dealer next week  :head_butt:

Don't tell them about the video until AFTER they make an assessment.  :whistler:

PS. Can't hear anyone talking on the video.   :undecided:

Hello, sorry to hear about your cars fault, but a question to others, does dodgy petrol come up as a fault code if it fails to fire up? Because I was just thinking that's what they may have meant by no faults.

To me it would sound like the car is running too lean on startup when warm - not enough fuel is being injected into the combustion chamber and due to the heat it is vaporising too fast. It could also be a faulty intake air temp sensor...but I stand corrected as the last time I messed with AF ratios was when I still tinkered on carburetted bikes :)

Does it swing over and not fire or does it not swing over at all? Fuel pump could also be suspect IMHO, not enough fuel pressure to get it going.

I just reread your post and it seems odd that it won't start in the mornings AND when it is warm.

Is there a problem with fuel flow?

Does it do it no matter the fuel level in the tank or only when low or high fuel content?
  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

Might be worth the effort in checking if there is spark from the plugs as well and if they are gapped correctly (but the dealer should have checked this first anyways)

Thanks for all your responses, i was re- reading another post on here and I thought maybe the idle control reprogrammed
That seemed to fix it for some people

I should mention that sometimes when it is a hard start like my 1st video I can put my foot of the brake and it will struggle to go but If I tap my foot on the accelerator and give it revs it starts with revs??

Dealer's will always try a software update because it's easy to do, but it sounds like you have a distinct hardware problem, like faulty throttle position sensor or any of that air temp / pressure sensors. Either way, they need to sort it out properly without the BS, next time. :fum:
