This is a true tale - which is why I found it hilarious.

Libby's sister (who I don't get on with) collects horse brasses and has them hanging round one of her fireplaces.  Libby and I were browsing an Antique shop last Saturday and Libby bought her sister a lucky horse shoe to add to her collection.

Her sister came over for dinner this evening and had her thumb all bandaged. It transpired she hit it with a hammer while hanging up the lucky horse shoe. I cracked up when she told us.

I don't get on with my S.I.L but at least it's a long-standing stable relationship but I must confess I have to rein in my temper sometimes when she starts cantering on about things. I usually trot out a sarcastic comment to shut her up. She will then usually shy away.

You are in a stable relationship without blinkers but when you are visiting the sil and a furlong from home you could pull up  with the lame excuse that you don't want to trotts into her stall.
