Well it didn't take then long to realise that the number of £0 or £low tax was going to hit the governments coffers...

Reforms to Vehicle Excise Duty are currently under discussion, the Treasury has said.

It follows reports that increased fuel efficiency could lead to a fall in revenue from the tax, which is levied according to how much CO2 a car emits.

Labour said the government was planning a "stealth tax hike" on motorists.

What sort of idiots do they have in the treasury. A CO2 tax is levied, car manufacturers respond by lowering emissions. The govt responds by changing the rules. No wonder people hate politicians, legal robbery. Bring back Robin Hood

Much like speed cameras here....
They supposedly want people to stop speeding yet rely on the income they bring in as part of the State's budget.....

Sounds like smoking too.
At least in WA we've got to the stage now where monies received from speed cameras goes directly into road safety so at least there is a direct benefit rather than it going into consolidated revenue.

Probably goes to buying more speed cameras considering they are known as "road safety" cameras these days...  :undecided:
