Hi, I am after a set of headlight protectors to prevent stone damage as i do a lot of motorway miles, does anyone know where I could purchase a set in the UK or mail order ?

I have tried the Hyundai dealers and searched the internet and cannot seem to find any !

I also do a lot of motorway miles, but the headlights never seem to get hit; maybe it's the smooth lines that deflect stones off, or maybe they're just so rugged.


It's a different matter with the rest of the frontal bodywork though  


Haven't seen any protectors for sale myself.

They seem to be available in Australia according to Hyundai Aus website

I've never seen any for sale in the UK. They certainy aren't listed as an official accessory here. I've not seen any on ebay either.

No never seen them available in the UK, agree with Steve, the lights seem pretty protected unlike the bumper or chrome grill.

The price from the dealers is £49.95, a bit pricey but probably cheaper than a headlight if a stone heads your way !

expect to pay £100 a pop on ebay occasionally for a headlight on ebay, and no doubt more from a dealer.

But I must say in more years driving than I care to think of I don't even recall a bad chip on a headlight let alone breaking one while driving.

I get the impression that the polycarbonate lenses are a lot tougher than the glass lenses in older cars (certainly less susceptible to shatter..) and probably stronger than plain old plastic headlight covers...would be interesting to know how the headlights handled the recent monster hail in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane..

polycarbonate!!!! when i used to be a tool maker we made some things to stop people putting there finger through the flyscreen on a screen door, the initial ones were made from acrylic, when you dropped a 1kg brass weight on them they shattered, when we made the production ones. they were made from polycarbonate.... when you dropped the same weight on them from head height it just bounced off and left a small dent in it...

the down side of head light protectors is that they are made from acrylic... as mentioned above they shatter/crack when a stone strike is hard enough... your head light is polycarbonate... its 100x stronger

I've never seen that design before in Canada (it looks like the lens protectors clip over the headlight with those tiny clips at the top/bottom)
But I am interested in the long-term life of the headlight. On most cars older than 2-3 years the lenses look foggy from all the tiny surface scratches...

bad, bad ,bad, idea to put anything on the paint and plastics of your car apart from polish/wax...

if the headlights are scratched, POLISH THEM... its plastic, just like paint it will polish up

I tend to agree with Ian.. I bought some cut to size adhesive protector film for my previous Getz but it proved to be a disaster.. Difficult to apply and wouldn't stay in place..

Another problem with this film-type protector on the i30 headlight is the curvature of the i30 lens. Applying a flat film to a considerably-curved lens would mean inevitable wrinkles and pleats in the finished job which would not only look truly cr@p but would not allow light from the lens to travel through freely.

(I have used Altrex Light Skins successfully on flat lenses before.)

a few of my mates have used that type of stick on head light protective film,it turned yellow and became unroadworthy.   a pair of replacement lights is around $500 each [hyundai original] ID be giving that film a miss.  IMO
