I guess it's a bit late but this 3 part documentary on the history of the motor car and motoring in Australia began on the ABC last night. It has a catch up tonight on ABC 2.
I enjoyed the first episode and will be back for more.

I noticed on Ultralight's thread about his road trip that Lakes has mentioned the Bean motor car. It got some space last night as one of the (ex) presenters from Top Gear Australia has restored one and intends to recreate Francis Birtles'  drive from England to Australia back in the 1920's.

Car looked damn good I might add.

Last night's episode ended at about the time the 48/215 and FJ Holdens hit our roads and among the highlights next week will be the supercars.

'Twas wondering, can our overseas members access the ABC site to watch this show?  :undecided:

If not, I was thinking of perhaps uploading the series to a hosting site........

Can't speak for other Europeans, but all I can see is the opening picture of the side of a vanguard, but it won't play :(

(that's trying through German and US lines)

Final episode last night.
A couple of interesting highlights IMO, both centering around Peter Brock.

To quote Colin Bond, Bathurst winner, Australian Rally Champion and creator of the famous "Bond Roll Bars" company,
"Peter Brock as a racing driver - absolutley brilliant. As a man, that's a whole other story".

And arch rival, Ford driver,Allan Moffat whilst also talking about Brock, broke down on camera. Five years after his death.

I have met and spoken to each of these guys over the years and whilst on the surface one could question how the two drivers closest to Brock for most of his career, could have such widely differing responses. Yet I have to say, both were accurate and honest reponses.

Overall the series represents an excellent portrayal of the history of the motor car in Australia. They didn't attempt to disguise the hoon or bogan element associated with cars but I think they went a long way to putting it into perspective,

'Twas great to be reminded of the Graeme Blundell (Alvin Purple), "Hey Charger" ads, too.

Yep, it's a free download like Daz said.....

Select the  "Free User" Slower Download button, enter the code (or if you are having trouble seeing it, get a different one) hit the download button
again, wait for the countdown to finish and then hit the download button once more and then it's just a matter of selecting where you want the download put.......

It sounds complicated but you'll soon master it, Steve..... :goodjob:
