I must have been lucky - I had Audi A3 2.0 diesel with the DSG gearbox and it ran faultlessly for 3 years. I was impressed with the box - which was responsive and smooth - but especially because in the hands of most drivers it had better fuel economy that a manual box.  I sold the car at the end of the warranty period because I had read of DSG failures and the astronomical repair costs.

and I'm pretty sure it doesn't run a 7 speed dsg gearbox

This was an issue in our place long time ago, in the beginning the car-maker insisted DSG worked perfectly all over the world and refuse to repair. After all the government joined the investigation. Eventually I saw the same problem form overseas.

Funny you should say that.

Only yesterday I started to watch a program on you tube about the Bugatti. It appears, their engineers designed that very type of transmission. Haven't finished watching it, too busy.
