I have been mulling over the possibility of downsizing so off I went to 'WHAT CAR' because they usually do a nice test drive thing on video to give one the feel of how they drive.  First off I went to the Toyota to have a look at the AYEGO, the tester had very little nice to say about it, stiff, bumpy and plasticity also overpriced with very little kit.  T'was is final remarks which caught my attention, which was basically forget the AYEGO and go for the Hyundai i10.  Amazing value for money, fun to drive and well kitted out for a round the town car...

I know this is not an i30 recommendation but it is Hyundai and they are as I have stated all along, overtaking Toyota  :DoubleKiss: :DoubleKiss:

My dad has an i10 - 1.2 - and I must say it is a smashing car for around town and the odd bit of open road.

  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

Yes, that's good to hear.
I parked at Midland Gate shopping centre car park today and as I got out of my car, a young girl pulled in next to me in a 5 door i20.
I asked her what she thought of it and her faced just absolutely beamed.
She said, "It is the BEST purchase I have ever made." (She was only about 18, mind you).
"It is SO economical and I LOVE driving it."
I said, "Yeah, they're pretty good these Hyundai's, aren't they?"
And she said, "I LOVE mine," before heading off into the shops to spend all the money she saved.  :D
I had to smile.

A friend of mine was wanting to replace his horrible boring Saxo in early 2010 and was in the process of test driving lots of little cars (I don't know why he likes very little cars but he does). Anyway I noticed a very good review for the i10 and mentioned it - and after a test drive he got one.

He is still very pleased with it, regularly goes up to the Lakes in it where he does fell-walking. Only thing he doesn't like is the fuel consumption which is worse than his Saxo.

I've been a passenger several times and it does feel like a 'proper' car really. :)

Hi, I'm back!
Sorry guys, I've been out all day (I caught up with the P76 guru and had a coffee and a five minute chat for two and a half hours  :)).
A really nice guy with huge knowledge on these cars so I'm sure I'll end up with one eventually. He let me have a drive of his immaculate P76 too and I let him take April for a spin too - he was impressed.
No offence taken  :D I did think that, approaching a girl younger than my daughter to "talk cars" but hey, I was genuine and sincere and interested

c'mon Asa,whats got your fancy,still an i10?

OK then, if I was moving on, this is the deal.  I was pulled in behind an i10 this morning and it did look a tad ordinary to one used to the relative luxury of the i30...   So... IF I WAS MOVING I think I would be looking at i20 or even ix20...

My motivation for having these perverse thoughts is the absolute knowledge that, fuel is going to steadily rise in price.  I mean in reality it ain't never gonna go back to affordable is it???   I am guessing that in the UK it will reach £2 a litre by Christmas.

It'll be like the cost of smoking people will sit around threatening not to buy any more, or if it goes to such and such a price they'll stop.

Well, with  smoking, I did.  Got to my price limit and I stopped  :goodjob:

I am not sure what my limit is with fuel as I still do a little work so I guess I would have to sit down and do some math and find the point when fuel was so expensive as to make working almost unprofitable or at least not worth while.  Let me quickly qualify this (cos I know that most i30 owners are really sharp d00000ds) remember I only work a day or two in a month.  So I would reach that cut off point much quicker than a full time d000d doing overtime et al.

So there ya go, I have let ya have a peek inside my thinking processes.   I know I aint the sharpest knife in the box, but that's how I roll

I think you are sharp enough ASA .. I think an i20 or iX20 would be better for  abig fella like you than an i10  :goodjob:

I suspect though with the low mileages you do, you will keep the i30 until the warranty is about done  :winker:
