Hi,

New forum member here and I've just collected my i30 from the dealership earlier today.  Not bad considering it was ordered on 22nd of January!

Anyway, the model I've got is the 2011 facelift with the much lower number plate at the rear.  When ordering I'd also specified a towbar, which the dealer has duly fitted.

Problem now is that the boys in blue aren't too happy as the flange of the towbar and the electrics partially obscure said lower number plate, leading them to tell me to "get it sorted".  All this in the space of 4 hours of ownership!

Has anyone else experienced this, or have any advice they can give?

Thanks.

The police are right, you can get fined for having a towbar covering your number plate in any way. Is it one you can take off easily?

Can you post a pic of it? I'd like to see it.

Yep. I'd be back to the dealership with a simple request.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

A snapshot can be seen here (hopefully  ) .

It is fixed not removable so nothing I can do with it as yet.  On to the dealership as soon as it opens!

Thanks.

It's certainly no good like that.

Not doubting you but that would be the first tow bar I've seen for decades that cannot have the tongue removed because, at least here in Victoria, it's illegal to have the protrusion even if the plate is not obscured.

In any case you seem to have a previously unseen (here) model.

That does look ridiculous. I think your dealership should have advised you there would be an incompatibility between the towbar and the plate.

If the bar doesn't move (as you say) then the plate would have to be raised, and that too would look daft.

Wouldn't mind seeing more pics (in the diesel pics thread of course) of your facelifted CRDi

Wow that is certainly not good, why would they even allow you to put that on like that?
In any case, I wanna see more pics of this facelift car!

I think you need to ask the dealer why they let the car on the road which DOES NOT conform to UK requirements!!!!!!!

They have some serious questions to ask themselves.

ps I'd be inclined to email HY UK with a picture and ask for there comments on how the Tow Bar should or if a Tow Bar can be fitted to the new model?

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies.  The dealer got a good kicking today I can tell you!  They will be exchanging the towbar for one of those removable ones which should be ok since when having the bike rack on the rear it'll have its own lightboard anyway.

I'll sort out some more pic's of the car and post them - it's peeing down up here in Newcastle at the moment so I'll wait until that stops (although the way the water is beading up looks pretty darn cool  ).

Cheers,

Adam M.

Do you have an email address for them you can share?  All I've got is a tel number and the "contact us" form on the website which won't allow for attachments.

Cheers.

Adam. I'll PM you the best email to use; I can't allow it to be posted on the forum though. Asking their tech services is a good idea as eye30 suggested.

At least you can have a towbar ! (my Camry Hybrid can't have one due to the under body shielding - for aerodynamics)

Hi All,

Apparently the new towbar will be fitted sometime Tuesday morning so will keep you all posted.  In the mean time I've added some picks of my new toy in the Diesel Pics part of the forum.

Regards

Finally sorted!  :D

This is how it now looks with the removal bar removed:

When the bar is in it obviously covers the plate again but no real issue since whatever I'm dragging will have a lightboard on it.

Regards
