Well, today the i30 reached the 150.000 km mark  :happydance:

As stated elsewhere I have only owned the car for 11 month and 24.000 km, so I can't take the honor for all the km's but so far I'm very happy with the car.

The car handles very well, not much noise from the engine at cruise speed, but the road noise is annoying me. Very good seats and the blue/white light in the instrument cluster is very easy to read.

However, I do not understand the tripcomputer. Today i went to the servicestation to fill up the car. Trip showed 974 km. I filled 51,25 liter in the tank and after starting the car the Distance To Empty showed 826 km! Where do the computer get these figures from..??

But overall, I'm very satisfied with the car.  :razz:

Sorry for the poor picture, it's from my mobile phone.  :disapp:

Nice milestone - congrats.

I would assume the distance to empty would be calculated by average fuel consumption rates.  Obviously certain driving styles or conditions will increase the consumption rate from average while others do the opposite.  Seeing as you've only put ~16% of the trip computer's data for averages in...  But mine doesn't even have a distance to empty number, so what do I know?

About the trip computer.. Honestly..I like most of the things in i30, but the trip computer....not so much  :whistler:

Good job Asterix .. There are lots of old posts on here about DTE .. It is always very conservative until it gets close to empty for some reason.. (but really a very minor fault)

Sort of  :offtopic:

The above post references the DTE function & it's accuracy.

That started me thinking & I think this is what happens.

When the car is filled & trip data is reset, the vehicle does not retain a fuel consumption figure to reference it's DTE calculation on. A new figure based on actual fuel usage is generated. I think the 1st figure is created only 40 seconds after engine start. In my case, that's starting the engine and pulling onto the road only to be stopped at traffic lights 20 metres away. As the calculation time base is so small, the figure is meaningless, but not an error of the system. The further you drive, the more accurate the calculation will be due to averaging and a larger time base. The figures for each vehicle will still be significantly different for each of us due to the different averages we achieve. here are a few total distances possible depending on averages.

based on 53 litres in the tank

4.7 l/ 100 = 1127.66
5.0           = 1060.00
6.0           =   883.33

As you can see, there can be a big variation in total distance.

It's a pity that the last tank average isn't used for initial calculations.  :neutral:

Thanks guys  :razz:

Well, my plan was to keep the car for 8-10 years, but after seeing the pictures of the new i30 CW I'm not sure anymore  :mrgreen:

About the DTE. To me it would make sense if it would calculate current x/100 x the amount of fuel in the tank. But as mentioned, a minor fault.

By the way, great link, Dazz  :goodjob:

I've allready started on the next 150.000.... :happydance:

Hi

Reached the 100.000 miles on your way down the Autobahn heading for Croatia, so couldn't take the photo.

Have now done 163330 km.  :goodjob2:

Not apart from the DPF issues, but that was also bad enough..
